  1. Hemant Soren, the working president of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) became the chief minister of the state for the second time. Governor Draupadi Murmu administered him the oath as the 11th Chief Minister of the state. Along with Soren, Alamgir Alam, Rameshwar Oraon and Satyanand Bhokta took the oath of the minister at the Morhabadi ground in Ranchi. Earlier, Hemant was sworn in as Chief Minister in July 2013. Together with JMM-RJD-Congress, he ran the government for 1 year, 5 months and 15 days. Hemant’s father Shibu Soren has also been CM of the state 3 times.
  2. The country’s oldest Greater Chennai Municipal Corporation is going to give the people of the city a chance to become secret agents. An app has been prepared for this, named ‘Chennai Secret Agent X.’ Through this app, people will be able to register flaws, problems found in the city’s infrastructure. Instead, they will get points. The agent who gets the most points will be given a free ride or tax relief for the metro for a month. The agent’s name will also be entered as the winner in this app.
  3. President Ramnath Kovind conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke Award of 2018 on the famous actor Amitabh Bachchan at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Mr. Bachchan was unable to attend the National Film Awards due to poor health. The honor was established in the year 1969 in the name of Dhundiraj Govind Phalke, grandfather of Indian cinema. In the same year, Shri Bachchan made his debut in the Hindi film industry through seven Hindustani films. Earlier this award was given to actor Vinod Khanna in 2017.
  4. After the successful operation of Lucknow-Delhi Tejas Express by “IRCTC”, preparations have been completed to run another similar premium train between Ahmedabad and Mumbai. The train will be inaugurated in Ahmedabad on 17 January 2020. The train will be formally launched from January 19, 2020, from Ahmedabad. The booking of Tejas train service has started and passengers can book tickets by visiting the “IRCTC” website – www.irctc.co.in and its mobile app “IRCTC Rail Connect”. For this, there will be no booking from the reservation counters of Railways.
  5. Astronaut Christina Koch of the US space agency NASA has become the longest-lived woman in space. On December 28, flight engineer Christina took NASA’s astronaut Peggy Whitson’s record of 288 days in the International Space Station (ISS). Christina, an engineer by profession, was also involved in the team of women who moved out of ISS in October this year. The record for the longest (340 days) stay in the ISS is to Scott Kelly, who was in space during 2015-16.
  6. State Bank of India (SBI- State Bank of India) has launched the One Time Password (OTP) based ATM withdrawal facility to reduce the unauthorized transactions in ATMs. From January 1, 2020, this facility will be available for transactions of more than Rs 10,000 between 8 pm and 8 am at SBI ATM. The bank has added another layer of security in case of cash withdrawal by introducing an OTP based cash withdrawal facility. SBI customer will get his mobile number registered with the OTP bank. The additional factor of this single transaction authentication will help SBI customers avoid unauthorized ATM cash withdrawal.
  7. The Maharashtra government approved the Agricultural Waiver Scheme. It also approved a subsidy meal scheme for the poor. The state cabinet approved the Mahatma Jyotirao Phule agricultural loan waiver scheme under which the agricultural loan pending till 30 September 2019 will be waived. Similarly, the cabinet also approved the introduction of the ‘Shiva food’ program under which the poor will be provided food at a fixed center in all the districts of the state for ten rupees. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray announced these plans on the last day of the winter session of the state legislature in Nagpur.
  8. The Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, launched a scheme named ‘Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana’ for the residents of slum clusters (JJ) groups. It will provide a pucca house to every citizen in Delhi. The Delhi government has surveyed the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) which has ordered building houses for slum dwellers.
  9. Indian Grandmaster Koneru Hampi has won the title by defeating China’s Lei Tingji in a tiebreaker at the Women’s World Rapid Chess Championship in Moscow, Russia. Hampi and Tingji had nine points after the 12th round, so the winner was decided from the Armageddon game. With this, Hampi became the second Indian to win a rapid title in the current format. Earlier, Vishwanathan Anand won the title in the Open category in 2017. Tongji won the silver, while Turkey’s Ekaterina Atalik had to be content with the bronze medal. The men’s title was won by Magnus Karlsson of Norway.
  10. The number of registered users of the central government’s civil contact platform “mygovindia” has gone up to one crore. Five years ago @mygovindia started its journey to give a strong platform to the thoughts and voice of the people of the country. The Prime Minister’s Office said in a tweet that “mygovindia” has emerged as a capable center for capturing citizens’ views and views.
  11. Home Minister Amit Shah has said that the government is committed to ensure that every soldier of the paramilitary forces gets an opportunity to spend 100 days every year with his family. Laying the foundation stone of the Directorate General of Central Reserve Police Force-CRPF building in New Delhi, he said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has pledged to take care of the families of the soldiers engaged in protecting the country. He said that health cards will be given to the families of the soldiers. Mr. Shah appealed to the State Governments to provide this facility. The Home Minister said that a committee has been formed to plan other facilities including accommodation for the jawans.
  12. Australian fast bowler Peter Siddle retired from international cricket. The 35-year-old Siddle took 221 wickets in 67 Tests. Siddle played his first Test against India in 2008 in Mohali. He dismissed Sachin Tendulkar as his first Test wicket.
  13. Vishveshthirtha Swamiji has passed away on 29 December. He was the head of the Pejawar Math. Pejavar Swami Vishweshtirth, the head of the Sri Pejavar Math located in Udupi, Karnataka, was the head of the monastery since the 70s. Born in a south Indian Brahmin family in 1931, Pejavar Swami was born in Venkatarama. At the age of 7, he retired from worldly life. He has crores of followers in the country and the world. Pejavar Math is one of the most revered monasteries in South India. This monastery is recognized in South India, as well as in North India, there is no dearth of devotees of this monastery. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also one of the devotees of Pejawar Swamy. BJP leader Uma Bharti took initiation from Pejawar Swamy.
  14. The Navy plans to add 24 new submarines to its fleet. Of these, 6 will be submarines capable of nuclear attack, while 18 will be submarine attacks. The Navy gave this information to the Parliamentary Committee on Defense Affairs. The 13 conventional submarines included in the current fleet with the Navy are 17 to 31 years old. The Navy had prepared a plan to build 6 nuclear submarines of the Arihant class. These submarines run with nuclear fuel and are also able to attack with nuclear weapons. The Navy is working on Project 75 to build 6 new conventional submarines. The Navy will build them in collaboration with Indian companies and foreign equipment manufacturers.

  16. India will achieve 100 GW (one lakh MW) of renewable energy capacity by 2020 and will be able to move rapidly towards the target of achieving 175 GW capacity by 2022. By the end of November, the country’s renewable energy installed capacity had reached 86 GW. This includes projects such as solar, wind, small hydropower, biomass, waste-to-electricity. The renewable energy capacity of about 30 GW is in the implementation stage. It has 18 GW solar and 10 GW wind power. At the same time, a tender is being floated for 40 GW. It has 36 GW of solar and 3.4 GW of wind power.
  17. Nazar Nandi, an Indian social worker known for his community work in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), passed away. The reason for the death of Nandi, a resident of Kerala, has been attributed to the heart attack. Voluntarily participating in social work, he helped hundreds of needy people in the UAE. These included patients suffering from serious ailments and Indians who were caught in legal trouble in the UAE due to visa issues.

A team of international scientists, including Indian researchers, has developed an automated device based on glucose biosensor that can detect diabetes levels even from saliva samples. One important thing associated with this glucose biosensor is that it can be transplanted into the body. This biosensor can also operate without external electrical energy within the body. Researchers say that after transplantation of this glucose biosensor in the body, there will be no need to test blood glucose levels repeatedly and diabetes can be monitored regularly. The use of this new glucose biosensor-based device to detect diabetes levels will also relieve pain caused by needling.
  19. Home Minister Shri Amit Shah laid the foundation stone for India’s first Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) project. Under this project, the art infrastructure area including the tallest tower (161 m) in Delhi will be constructed. The tower will be built at Karkardooma in the eastern part of Delhi and is named ‘East Delhi Hub’.
