  1. The Ministry of Earth Sciences launched the ‘Meteorological’ mobile app of the Indian Meteorological Department as part of its Foundation Day celebrations. With this, users can get information on weather forecasts, images taken from radar, and anomalous weather constraints. This mobile app is available on both PlayStore and AppStore. Its design has been designed keeping in mind that meteorological information and forecasts can be detected in a very simple way.
  2. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched three state-of-the-art testing laboratories of Covid-19 through video conferencing. These laboratories are located under the Indian Council of Medical Research-ICMR at national institutes in Noida, Mumbai, and Kolkata. These state-of-the-art laboratories will increase testing capacity and samples of about 10,000 people can be tested in each city. A higher number of tests will help in the rapid detection of infection and early treatment. This will strengthen the fight against the coronavirus. These laboratories will not be limited to testing Covid only and will be used in the future for the screening of Hepatitis B and C, HIV, TB, and Dengue.
  3. Researchers at IIT Kharagpur have developed a new low-cost, portable device that can test Covid-19 and deliver results in an hour. The new technique has the same accuracy as RT-PCR testing, which is now considered the standard for testing. The device uses a disposable paper strip to analyze the sample and the result is made available in a mobile application. The cost of the test is less than Rs 400.
  4. Due to the outbreak of the coronavirus epidemic, about 22 million children in South Asian countries including India have been deprived of their early education. This is revealed in the report of a new study by UNICEF. The report analyzes the effects of childcare conditions, early education, and discontinuation of important family services due to COVID-19 worldwide. Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Mr. Ram Vilas Paswan launched the BIS mobile application ‘BIS-Care’ and three portals – standardization, conformity assessment, and e-BIS training for consumers on the BIS-care ‘mobile app’ and www.manakonline.in did. Mobile apps BIS-Care can be operated on any Android phone. This app is in operation in Hindi and English and can be downloaded for free from Google Play Store. Consumers can check the authenticity of ISI marked and hallmarked products and register their complaints using this app.

The state-owned Bank of Maharashtra has joined hands with Uniken, a pioneer in the field of digital security in India, to secure its Internet banking channels on mobile, cards, call centers, and ATMs against cyber fraud. In this regard, the bank will use Unichene’s REL-ID technology for omni-channel security for its online banking app MahaSecure.
  8. Haryana will host the fourth edition of the Khelo India Youth Games after the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.   10. The Central Drug Standards Control Organization announced that it would conduct clinical trials of the COVID-19 vaccine COVISHIELD developed by the University of Oxford and AstraZeneca.   25. The Central Government has released Rs 13 thousand 806 crores for goods and services tax – GST compensation to the states for March 2020. With this, the entire compensation amount of GST for the last financial year has been released. In the year 2019-20, one lakh 65 thousand 302 crores have been released for GST compensation. During the same period, the collection of cess is 95 thousand 444 crores. The government has used the remaining amount of cess collected in the years 2017-18 and 2018-19 to compensate for the year 2019-20.
