  1. The Union Cabinet has issued an order to implement the 37 central laws included in the concurrent list in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. This decision has been made to follow legislation throughout the country. Also, to ensure the administration is effective in Jammu and Kashmir and to make changes smoothly. These central laws are being adopted under Section-96 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019. Under this section, the Central Government has the right to make adjustments and changes in the laws. The central government can do so by dissolving or amending the law.
  2. The first Himalayan zoological museum of North India opened in Solan, Himachal Pradesh. Central Environment, Forest and Climate Change Secretary CK Mishra inaugurated the ecological system Jeeva Kosh Bhawan, built at a cost of Rs 3 crore for the High Altitude Regional Center of Zoological Survey of India. In this building, all the records of biological research done in the Himalayan region will be available. There are four Jeeva Kosh buildings in the country. This center established in Solan will be important for the research of organisms of the Himalayan ecosystem. Most of the fauna species are found in it.
  3. The 5-day 5th edition of Indo-UK (United Kingdom) bilateral air exercise Indradhanush – V 2020 between Indian Air Force (IAF) and British Royal Air Forces (RAF) has been launched at Air Force Station Hindon in Uttar Pradesh.
  4. According to the World Air Quality 2019 survey conducted by IQ Air Visual on pollution, Ghaziabad is the most polluted city in the world. The city has come under severe pollution due to several industrial areas in Ghaziabad. Major cities in other countries are also struggling with the problem of pollution. Ghaziabad is followed by Hotan of China, Gujranwala of Pakistan and Faisalabad. Bangladesh emerged as the most polluted country for PM2.5 performance. It is followed by Pakistan, Mongolia, Afghanistan, and India (in 5th place) respectively.

  1. Ajay Banga of Indian origin has been appointed as Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors of MasterCard. He was the CEO of MasterCard for 10 years. Ajay Banga will take over as Executive Chairman on 1 January 2021. On May 1, 2021, Michael Maybach will take over as the new CEO of MasterCard.
  2. The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is launching GISAT 1 (Earth-imaging Satellite) for continuous monitoring of the Indian subcontinent. The satellite will be launched by ISRO on 5 March 2020. The satellite will be launched by the GSLV-F10 rocket. The satellite weighs 2,275 kg and is to be placed in geosynchronous orbit.
  3. The Union Minister of Human Resource Development (HRD) Mr. Ramesh Pokhriyal launched the ‘Higher Education Leadership Development Program for Managers’. The initiative is a joint venture between the UGC (University Grants Commission) and the British Council under the United Kingdom (UK) India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI). The objective of which is to provide leadership development programs to middle and senior-level administrative officers in Indian universities.
  4. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson appointed Indian Parliamentarian Suella Braverman as the new Attorney General of England and Wales. He was administered the oath of office at the Royal Courts of Justice here on Monday. Suella is the second woman to hold this position in British judicial history and the first woman Attorney General appointed to a Conservative Party government. Apart from Suella Braverman, Johnson has placed three other Indian diaspora in his cabinet. While Priti Patel has been made the Home Minister, Rishi Sunak, the son-in-law of Indian entrepreneur and Infosys founder Narayana Murthy, has been appointed as the Finance Minister. Another Indian Alok Sharma is holding the post of the International Development Minister.
  5. The 16th Joint Ministerial Commission between India and Australia was held in New Delhi. Piyush Goyal, Minister of Railways and Commerce and Industry on behalf of India and Honorable Senator Simon Birmingham, Minister of Trade, Tourism and Investment on behalf of Government of Australia, jointly chaired the Joint Ministerial Commission held between the two countries. The session was attended by representatives from the Department of Promotion of Fisheries, Revenue, Commerce, Agriculture, Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and the Ministry of External Affairs.
  6. The cultural festival Vasantotsav has been organized in Gujarat by the Department of Youth and Cultural Affairs, Government of Gujarat. This annual festival was held at Sanskriti Kunj in Gandhinagar in Gujarat to mark the rich diverse heritage of the country. This cultural program was organized on the theme of Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat. The festival was attended by artists from across the country and was inaugurated with the folk dance of Chhattisgarh. Chhattisgarh has been included with Gujarat under the “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat” scheme of the Central Government.
  7. The Reserve Bank of India has lifted the ban on Bandhan Bank to open new branches. However, RBI has lifted the ban on Bandhan Bank with some conditions. The RBI has directed the bank to order about 25% of the total banking outlets to be opened by the bank in a financial year in rural areas where banking facilities are not available. Bandhan Bank was banned from opening a new branch in September 2018 on behalf of the Supreme Court and the court ordered the salary and freeze of Chandra Shekhar Ghosh, the chief executive of the bank, after not fulfilling the shareholding rules. According to the RBI Licensing Guideline, Bandhan Financial Holding, the bank promoter was to reduce the company’s share from 82% to 40% in 3 years.
  8. Madhya Pradesh has become the first state in the country to introduce Unified Registration Card facility, and the second state to launch the Unified Driving License service after Uttar Pradesh. More detailed information will be printed on both sides of these new cards. This card will be the same color all over the country. Along with having a specific serial number on it, it will also have an accidental emergency number written on it. The unified smart card for driving license and vehicle registration will have a QR code, which will help confirm the authenticity of the card’s data. The integrated driving license card will also have the driver’s ability to drive vehicles in hilly and dangerous areas. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) in March last year issued guidelines for uniformity of driving licenses and vehicle registration cards across the country. These cards will be issued in compliance with these guidelines.
  9. Diplomat Javed Ashraf has been appointed as the new Ambassador of India to France. Ashraf, a 1991 batch Indian Foreign Service officer, is currently posted at the Indian High Commission in Singapore. He will soon assume his new charge. In France, he will replace Vinay Mohan Kawatra, who has been appointed as India’s ambassador to Nepal.
  10. National Conference on Coastal Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience 2020 was organized in New Delhi. This national conference was organized by the National Institute of Disaster Management. The conference aimed to enhance human potential as a better understanding of coastal disaster risk and effective collaborative action by implementing the Prime Minister’s 10-point agenda and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction to reduce risk and increase resilience among affected stakeholders. More than 175 participants from various organizations/departments of central and state participated in this national conference.
  11. Saudi Arabia has created three new ministries for tourism, sports, and investment. As per the royal order, the cabinet has undergone major changes. In addition to oil, Shah Salman has raised the status of government departments looking for tourism, sports, and investment to increase revenue and made him a separate ministry.
  12. Former President Pranab Mukherjee has been invited to address a special session of Bangladesh’s ethnic parliament on the birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Nepal’s President Bidhya Devi Bhandari has also been invited to address the session. The special session of Parliament will take place on 22 and 23 March. Mujib Centenary Year will conclude in Dhaka on 17 March. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also expected to participate in this centenary celebrations. More than 1.7 million people have been targeted to be given Japanese encephalitis vaccination under the National Health Mission in Goalpada, Kokrajhar and South Salmara-Manchar districts in Assam. This vaccination will be free and people up to 65 years can get vaccinated without any hesitation. Last year, 161 people died in the state due to Japanese encephalitis.
  14. The Maharashtra Legislature passed a bill allowing the sarpanch or head of a village to be elected by members of local bodies in place of elections. Maharashtra Gram Panchayat Amendment Bill 2020 was introduced in the Assembly by the State Rural Development Minister Hasan Mushrif. Mushrif said that the provisions of the current law have been revised to make the functioning of Panchayats easier.
  15. Pakistan’s Imran Khan government has declared former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif a fugitive. The government has accused Sharif of not sending his medical report and violating bail provisions. With this, his bail has been canceled. Sharif, who was serving a seven-year jail sentence in a corruption case, was granted eight weeks bail by the High Court on October 29 last year on health grounds. He went to London for treatment on 19 November but has not returned since.

With this, the number of protected species of seeds in the treasury reached one million. The seed fund, which was formed in 2008, is conserving the seeds of all the world’s crops and plant species. The aim is to protect plant species from extinction due to global warming.
