English - 27 February 2020 Current Affairs
  1. A high-level committee constituted to review the implementation of Clause 6 of the Assam Accord has submitted the report to Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. The committee was headed by retired judge B.K. Done by Sharma. This report will be handed over to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. Clause 6 of the Assam Accord contains constitutional, legal and administrative provisions to protect the cultural, social, linguistic identity and heritage of the people of Assam. Several steps have been taken under Clause-6 to provide administrative, constitutional and statutory protection to the people of Assam, the main ones being:
  • Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra Society was established with funds received from the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
  • Jyoti Chitraban launched the Film Studio Scheme.
  • Archaeological Survey of India has started the conservation work of five monuments Singari temple relics, Poa-Mecca, Urvashi archaeological site, Kedar temple, and Hayagreeva Madhav temple.
  • The Assam Accord was signed in 1985 by the Government of India and the leaders of the Assam Movement. Under this agreement, the Government of India accepted migrants before 1966 and the Government of India agreed to provide social, political, cultural and economic rights to the people of Assam.
  1. India and the US finalized a three billion dollar defense deal and signed three agreements including health and oil fields. An MoU on mental health was also signed between the health departments of the two countries. Another MoU was signed between the Central Drug Standards Control Organization and the Food and Drug Administration of the United States regarding the safety of medical products. Oil Corporation of India signed a letter of cooperation with Exxon Mobil Bharat LNG Limited and Chart Industries of the USA. India has signed an agreement to purchase state-of-the-art US military equipment including Apache and MH-60 Romeo helicopters worth more than three billion dollars from the US.
  2. America’s first lady “Milania Trump” arrived to see “Sarvodaya Vidyalaya” at South Moti Bagh, New Delhi. Milania Trump interacted with the children in this government school in Delhi, learned about the various activities of the school and joined the course “Happiness Class”. In the US, she is running a “B-best initiative” to encourage similar ideas among children. School children presented “Milania” as a gift of their handmade “Madhubani painting”.
  3. The first anniversary of the “National Summer Memorial” (National War Memorial) was celebrated on 25 February. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had this “memorial” on 25 February last year was dedicated to the nation. The memorial is dedicated to the heroes who sacrificed their lives during various wars and internal security challenges after independence.
  4. Recently, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a notification for amendment in the Ordnance Act, 1959 and Ordnance Rules, 2016. The main objective of amending the Ordnance Act and Ordnance Rules is to increase the number of firearms that can be kept by the players. Shooting is an important Olympic sport in India. Indian shooters have excelled in international events. Keeping this in mind, the Ministry of Home Affairs, under the notification issued under the Ordnance Act, 1959, will now allow Indian shooters to keep sufficient quantities of fire and ammunition for practice. After this provision, players will be able to practice with different types of weapons. Ordnance act, 1959 was brought to prevent the illegal collection of weapons within the country. It is noteworthy that the Government has passed the Ordnance (Amendment) Act, 2019 in December 2019 to remove the gaps in this Act of 1959. According to the amendment, now the international medalist and noted shooter has been allowed to keep a maximum of 12 arms, whereas earlier this number was only 7. If a shooter is famous in any one competition, then he is allowed to keep a maximum of 8 arms, whereas this number was earlier only 4.
  5. NITI Aayog recently released a report on the National Nutrition Campaign. According to this report, 28% of Aadhaar based payments are going to the wrong accounts. Many payments made under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana have gone to the wrong accounts. This is the second report released by NITI Aayog. This report has been released by the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development. According to this report, about 66% are based on the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) basis. It is worth noting that only 60% of the total beneficiaries are aware of the benefits.

  7. Birla Estates has launched a chatbot “LIDEA” for its clients working on Artificial Intelligence. Through “LIDEA”, users will be able to get accurate information about “Residential Development Projects” created by Birla Estates.
  8. Union Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank honored the winners of the Vishwakarma Award 2019 in New Delhi. During this time, 23 groups were awarded the Student Vishwakarma Award. While 6 institutes were awarded the Vishwakarma Vishwakarma Award. 2,372 teams presented solutions for this award. 117 teams were selected after a three-stage evaluation. These teams will present their prototypes at the National Convention and Exhibition. The award ceremony was organized by “AICTE – All India Council for Technical Education” carried out by. These awards have been instituted by AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education). These awards are given every year for the development of the society.
  9. World champion Indian women’s badminton star PV Sindhu has been appointed as the brand ambassador of the Andhra Pradesh government’s anti-corruption helpline. An anti-corruption toll-free helpline number was released in the presence of Sindhu and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. A video titled Stop Corruption was also released on the occasion.
  10. “Losar Utsav” was celebrated in Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh. The festival is celebrated on the first day of the Tibetan calendar, also known as the “Tibetan New Year”. “Losar” is a festival in Tibetan Buddhism.

According to a recent rating to Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) payments prepared by the Central Government for the first time, the small state Haryana emerged as the best state in DBT payout (Rs 782 crore in over 4 crore transactions) in 2019-20. is.   17. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has banned Oman cricketer “Yusuf Abdulrahim Al Balushi” for 7 years for playing in all formats of cricket. The ICC has decided to impose this ban on the player being found guilty of violating several anti-corruption rules in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2019. “Al Balushi” violated Article 2.1.1 of the Anti-Corruption Code, in which the results, in any way, affect progress, be in favor of an agreement or effort to fix or control any other aspect of behavior or matches.   19. 11-year-old Divyang student “Jia Rai” has set a world record for the fastest swimming by any Divyang by swimming 14 kilometers in open water for 3 hours 27 minutes and 30 seconds. This record has been made under the supervision of the Maharashtra Swimming Association. This extraordinary achievement of Jia is considered worthy of being recorded in India Book of Records, Asia Book and Limca Book of Records. He was awarded a certificate and trophy for breaking these records. The young champion has come a long way since he discovered autism spectrum disorder and delay in speech at the young age of almost two.
  20. The Election Commission of India has announced the polling schedule for the 55 Rajya Sabha seats in 17 states to be vacated in April. As per the schedule, election notification will be issued on March 6, March 13 will be the last date for filing nominations and voting will be held on March 26 from 9 am to 4 pm Votes will be counted on the same day at 5 pm. Prominent leaders whose term ends in April include NCP leader Sharad Pawar, Union Minister Ramdas Athawale, veteran Congress leader Motilal Vora, Congress Digvijay Singh, and former Union Minister Vijay Goel. Maharashtra has the maximum vacancy of 7 seats followed by Tamil Nadu with 6 seats.

Union Rural Development Minister Narendra Singh Tomar has said that after taking stock of the success rate of the Rurban Cluster Scheme, the government aims to create one thousand more urbanized clusters in rural areas. The flagship scheme of the Center, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 21 February 2016, aims to transform urban settlements, enhance basic services and develop planned urban settlements by promoting local economic development.

BIMSTEC, an organization of seven countries from South and South East Asia including Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Nepal, and Bhutan, is working on setting up an electricity grid of about three thousand kilometers from Myanmar-Thailand to India. Dr. Tofiq-e-Ilahi Chowdhury, Energy Advisor to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, made this announcement while inaugurating the BIMSTEC Energy Conference in Dhaka. Dr. Chaudhary said that the construction of this grid will ensure the electricity demand and supply of member countries. He said that consumers will also benefit from this, as the price of electricity will decrease and they will continue to have an uninterrupted power supply.

National Agricultural and Rural Development Bank NABARD has sanctioned more than four hundred crores rupees for strengthening the infrastructure in the rural areas of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in the current financial year. 143 crore 66 lakh has been sanctioned for implementing 38 schemes of water supply in the state. Under this, the development of 27 existing water supply schemes and the construction of 11 new schemes are included. The objective of these water supply schemes is to provide clean and safe drinking water to the people living in rural areas.

  30. The Yogi government has made a major change in the Uttar Pradesh Fundamental Rules involving state employees. This rule will apply to workers taking voluntary retirement (VRS). In the cabinet ministers’ meeting held at Lok Bhavan, the proposal for amendment of Rule 56 (E) of UP Fundamental Rules 1942 has been passed. It will become law after passing from the house. Under this, any employee who takes VRS before completing 20 years of service will not get a full pension. There are about 1.5 million employees in Uttar Pradesh. Now there will be no grace period of 5 years from the state government. According to the rules so far, the state government used to give a grace period of 5 years to the employees taking VRS. That is, even if an employee took VRS in 15 years instead of 20 years, he would still get a full pension. But, this will not happen now. This rule was implemented long ago by the Central Government.
