  1. The President of Brazil “Zaire Messius Bolsonaro” has arrived in New Delhi on a four-day visit to India. Minister of State for External Affairs “D. Muralitharan” received “Bolsonaro” at the Air Force Airport Palam. The President of Brazil will be the chief guest at the Republic Day parade ceremony on Sunday.
  2. National Voters Day was observed on 25 January. The main theme of this 2020 Voters Day is “Electoral Literacy for Strong Democracy”. Under this, many activities will be conducted throughout the year, including voter education and strengthening the trust of voters on the election process. National Voters’ Day is celebrated every year on 25 January 2011 at one million places across the country, including polling centers, districts, and state headquarters. It is organized in connection with the establishment of the Election Commission of India on 25 January 1950.

On the occasion of National Girl Child Day, the Ministry of Women and Child Development has announced to set up 10 study benches in various disciplines to encourage women in the field of research work. These study benches being set up with the help of the University Grants Commission will be made in the name of eminent women. Its main objective is to motivate women to higher education and achieve excellence in their field of work. The bench is set up in the area of ​​administration will be in the name of Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar. Literary Chair named after the great Hindi poetess Mahadevi Verma, Chair of freedom struggle, Veerangana Rani Gaidinlu of North East, Health and Medical Chair named after Anandi Bai Gopalrao Joshi, Bench of performing arts MS Subbu Lakshmi, great singer of Carnatic music, forest and wildlife Conservation Bench Amrita Devi Beniwal, The Chair of Mathematics will be built in the name of ancient women mathematician Lilavati, the Chair of Science Kamala Sohoni, poetry, and mysticism in the name of Kashmiri saint poetess Lalyad and Hansa Mehta, the reform bench in education. These study benches will be initially for five years.
  4. The country’s first electronic waste clinic is opening in Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh. Electronic waste from domestic and business units will be disposed of in this clinic. It has been jointly established by the Central Pollution Control Board and Bhopal Municipal Corporation. Due to the lack of safe disposal of electronic waste, this waste is still disposed of along with other types of waste.
  5. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the closure of the plant and company of Rudharam Hindustan Fluorocarbon Limited in the Sangareddy district of Telangana. Hindustan Fluorocarbon Limited is a public sector undertaking under the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals. The government has also accepted an interest-free loan of Rs 77 crore for the activities of the company closure.
  6. NITI Aayog has announced the launch of the National Data and Analytics Platform (NDAP), which will make access to government data available to all sectors through this platform. The national data and analytics platform will act as a platform for all stakeholders to access data. In this, the latest data of all government websites will be hosted. The progress of this platform will be monitored by the Inter-Ministerial Committee. This platform will be launched in 2021.

The Disaster Mitigation and Management Center of Uttarakhand has been selected for the Subhash Chandra Bose Disaster Management Award (Institution category), IPS officer Kumar Munnan Singh has been selected in the individual category. The Disaster Mitigation and Management Center will be awarded Rs 51 lakh and a certificate as a reward. While Kumar Munnan Singh will be provided with Rs 5 lakh and a certificate. The winners of this award were announced on 23 January, the birthday of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. The Subhash Chandra Bose Disaster Management Award will honor individuals and institutions who have done excellent work in the country in disaster management. The purpose of this award is to honor the efforts of people and organizations who have helped people during a disaster.
  8. A unique taxi service called ‘Woman with Wheels’ has been launched at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. This taxi service is an initiative of ‘Sakha Cabs’. These taxi services will be for women passengers only and are operated by women drivers. Men will be allowed to enter this service only if they are with a woman. Wheels with Wheels can facilitate women travelers to visit any place in Delhi.
  9. The limit for investment in Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) in government and corporate bonds has been increased by the Reserve Bank of India. This decision has been made to bring more foreign funds into the market. The investment portfolio of Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPI) in government and corporate bonds has been increased from 20% to 30%. Apart from the increase in foreign portfolio investors, RBI has also announced an exemption in Voluntary Retention Route (VRR) for FPI investment in loans. According to the RBI circular, the investment cap through VRR has been increased from Rs 0.75 lakh crore to Rs 1.5 lakh crore. Apart from this, the central bank has also allowed FPIs to invest in exchange-traded funds which used to invest only in debt instruments.
  10. The 44th International Kolkata Book Fair (IKBF) in West Bengal will be held from 29 January to 9 February 2020. Russia will be the focal theme country of the 44th International Kolkata Book Fair. The theme’s gate will be a replica of the iconic Bolshoi Theater in Moscow. The International Kolkata Book Fair is the largest non-trade book fair in the world and the largest book fair in Asia, besides the largest book fair in Asia. This year, 20 countries will participate in the book fair.
  11. India and Bangladesh have signed an agreement to upgrade the 50.58-km Ashuganj-Akhaura road to a 4-lane highway. The road is between the Ashuganj river port and Akhaura land port in Bangladesh. The road project is part of a $ 2 billion second line of credit (LoC) extended by India to Bangladesh in 2016.

Rajesh Aggarwal, Member (Rolling Stock), Railway Board, inaugurated the East Coast Railway (ECOR) West to Energy plant for the power plant at the Maneshwar Carriage Repair Workshop in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. It is the fourth power plant in the country and the first plant built by the Indian Railways (IR),
  13. Australia will host the 11th season of the Indoor Cricket World Cup from 10 to 17 October. The tournament will be played at Melbourne’s state-of-the-art indoor cricket stadium at the Kace Stadium and Citypower Center. Australia is the defending champion in both the women’s and men’s sections. In this tournament, teams from ten countries will play in four sections under 21 men and women, open men and women.
  14. The names of the six cities that will host the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2021 have been announced. The ICC release said that from 6 February to 7 March, the ICC Women’s World will be held in six cities in New Zealand.   15. Mayor of Srinagar “Junai Azim Mattoo” announced that “Srinagar Open Defecation Free” (ODF) has joined the list of cities. Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir received their cleanliness certificate from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Central Government and joined the list of cities which are now “OPEN DEFECATION FREE”.

Now CUB customers can interact with the application’s chat-bot ‘Ask Lakshmi’ in Tamil, English, Hindi / Telugu language for their common banking queries, which include instructions like balance inquiry, mini statement, voice-over fund transfer.

Kerala Tourism’s barrier-free project has gained global recognition as an ‘Emerging Global Destination’ with the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) at the Accessible Destination Awards 2019 for the South-Indian state category. The identity is for the implementation of the project in Thrissur in the central Kerala district (the only place in India to win the honor). Kerala is also the first Indian state to operate according to UNWTO guidelines to make tourism destinations disabled-friendly.
  3. The central government is going to make it mandatory to link Voter ID to Aadhaar. The Law Ministry has accepted the suggestion made by the Election Commission in this regard. The ministry is preparing a cabinet note for this law. It will be presented before the Cabinet Committee headed by the Prime Minister.
  4. The government is going to make another register amidst the nationwide protests against NRC and NPR. This will be the National Business Register. It will have information about all the small and big businesses of every district. The information for this register will be collected based on the seventh economic census currently released. This register will contain district-wise information of all business units and institutions engaged in the production/distribution of goods, services.
  5. Former Executive Director of Indian Overseas Bank A. DM Chawli has been appointed as a member of the Advisory Board constituted by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC). The Commission has constituted this five-member board to conduct first-level investigation of the general manager and above officers of banks in banking and financial fraud cases. The order issued by the commission states that Chawli’s term will be till 20 August 2021. The board headed by former Vigilance Commissioner and the then head of Indian Bank TM Bhasin includes Chawli as well as former Urban Development Secretary Madhusudan Prasad, former Director-General of Border Security Force “DK Pathak” and then Chief Executive Officer of Andhra Bank And Managing Director “Suresh N. Patel” are members.
  6. Researchers at the Université Libre de Bruxelles in France have discovered the world’s oldest mushroom fossil in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in Africa. The fossil remains of the microscopic mushroom called mycelium were discovered in the rocks dating back to 715 and 810 million years ago. And it is published in the magazine “Science Advance”.
