  1. National Fertilizers Limited (NFL), a PSU under the Department of Fertilizers, is going to set up an organic waste changer (OWC) plant at Vijaypur (Madhya Pradesh). The organic waste collected in this unit will be transported to the OWC where it will be separated into several parts. It will take about 10 days to prepare as a useful compost. Under the ‘Swachh Bharat’ initiative, the project aims to recycle around 2000 kg of organic waste generated in the township per day including horticultural waste, and convert it into useful manure.
  2. The Chhatarpur police of Madhya Pradesh is carrying out a campaign called “Name of a Sankalpa-Burjurgo” during the Corona Mahamari in the state. “The name of a Sankalpa-Bujargo” means ‘Older Commitment’ is proving to be a boon for elderly and helpless people living alone in homes during the global pandemic COVID-19. Under this campaign, police are taking care of elderly persons from food to their health. This campaign has been carried out under Madhya Pradesh Police’s motto i.e. “Desh Bhakti-Jan Seva”.
  3. Former Finance Secretary Rajiv Kumar (Rajiv Kumar) has been appointed as the new Election Commissioner. He will replace Ashok Lavasa, whose resignation will take effect from August 31. Ashok Lavasa is going to assume the new responsibility as Vice President at Asian Development Bank (ADB). Rajiv Kumar is a 1984 batch retired IAS (Indian Administrative Service) officer.
  4. The Government of Uttar Pradesh has signed a ‘Plan of Cooperation’ with the Government of Israel to solve the water crisis of the Bundelkhand region. The partnership between the two governments is to address the problem of the water crisis in drought-prone areas of Bundelkhand. It will assist regional farmers with the latest agricultural technologies such as drip irrigation for water scarcity areas like Bundelkhand. This project will tackle the problem of water scarcity in Bundelkhand and its surrounding areas and will become an ideal for groundwater management, irrigation and potable water management for the rest of the country. According to the signed ‘Plan of Cooperation’, the two governments will cooperate in the field of water utility on the Indo-Israel Bundelkhand Water Project. The Indo-Israeli Bundelkhand Water Project has three components viz. Water conservation, water-efficient transport, and improved water efforts for agriculture.
  5. The Government of Gujarat has fixed the time limit for delivery of services related to ration cards under the public distribution system. For new ration cards, applications coming under Form No-2 will have to be approved within 15 days. In addition to the new name, the application to cancel the existing name and change the existing name or address in the ration card will have to be approved on the same day of filling the form. Applications related to family split and separate ration cards will have to be approved within seven days.
  6. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Help Logistics of Switzerland has been signed by the Indian Institute of Management (IIM-K) of Kozhikode. The partnership between the two institutions has been established to provide consultancy services in India and the region, as well as to provide training on logistics to humanitarian communities such as UN bodies, government institutions, and non-governmental organizations. This partnership will also work towards improving regional knowledge on humanitarian logistic matters as the two units will together undertake activities that integrate efforts to shape the supply chain that benefits humanity during the humanitarian crisis.
  7. The Kerala government has run Namath Basai Program to teach tribal children in their mother tongue. The ‘Namath Basai Program’ is being implemented by Samagra Shiksha Kerala- SSK. This program has helped hundreds of tribal children to be connected to their online classes by realizing the need for education at home for tribal children. SSK has distributed 50 laptops exclusively under this program. Pre-recorded classes are conducted through a YouTube channel.
  8. Recently Maharashtra Rural Development Minister Hasan Mushrif has announced that all serving and retired soldiers in Maharashtra will be exempted from Gram Panchayat Property Tax. The Maharashtra government has also issued a public proposal in this regard. As per the rules present in Maharashtra, till now the recipients of the Raksha Bravery Award and their dependents were exempted from the Gram Panchayat property tax for a residential building. Now the scope of this rule has been expanded in the state so that the serving and retired soldiers of the state will also be able to get its benefits. Announcing in this regard, Rural Development Minister Hassan Mushrif said that this decision has been taken mainly to honor the soldiers who protect the country day and night.
  9. Christopher School, Chessor Village, Nagaland won the first Pallikuttam National Award for Innovation in Education, established by Rajagiri Media, with a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh. The awards were announced during a virtual meeting. St. Christopher’s School won the award for ensuring a seamless classroom for students with limited infrastructure and resources in the rural area. The Grameen School provided a balanced online and offline activity on WhatsApp for the students. The award was sponsored under the CSR initiative of Federal Bank Limited. The winners of the awards were selected by an expert jury constituted by the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode (IIM-K).
  10. Solapur-based social worker Ganesh Vilas Lengre has been awarded the Star 2020 e-citation certificate by the World Book of Records, London. He has been honored for his efforts to help poor people during the bandh caused by COVID-19. Ganesh Vilas Legare launched 21 schemes to help the people. The most notable work he did was COVID-19 patient contact tracing, which was implemented with the help of Solapur district officials.
  11. Modulus Housing, an IIT Madras-incubate start-up, has developed a portable hospital unit that can be set up anywhere within two hours by four people. MediCAB is a decentralized approach to detect, screen, identify, isolate, and treat COVID-19 patients in their local communities through these portable microstructures. Medicab was recently launched in Wayanad district of Kerala, where units are being deployed to treat COVID-19 patients. The startup is developing micro-hospitals that can be deployed rapidly across the country.
  12. The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has launched an interceptor boat ‘ICGS C-454’ at Surat, Gujarat. The interceptor boat ‘ICGS C-454’ has been built by Larsen & Toubro and has a maximum speed of 45 knots or 83 kilometers per hour. This program has been in operation for the last 6 years and has provided funding for Indian enterprises, Has played a catalytic role in capacity building, and providing business development support. The Millennium Alliance Initiative announced a grant of Rs 26.25 crore to 49 aspiring Indian social entrepreneurs for their innovative solutions to address Indian and global development challenges. Of these, 33 latest solutions will focus on health, agriculture, clean energy, education, water and sanitation, and disability. The remaining 16 solutions will tackle the challenges posed by the current COVID-19 crisis in India and Africa / South Asia with the help of the Government of the United Kingdom (up to the US $ 1.3 million).
  14. The state of Punjab has secured the first position in the list of best performing states in the operation of the Health and Welfare Center (HWC). It has been released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India. The ranking was announced by Punjab State Health and Family Welfare Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu. The scheme was launched in the state in the year 2019. Till now these flavonoid molecules were isolated from plants. But for the first time, scientists have found a way to synthesize these molecules in the laboratory, thereby paving the way to ensure their availability in all seasons without over-exploiting the medicinal plants in which they are found. ‘Rugosaflavonoid A’ (Rugosaflavonoid A) is a Chinese medicinal plant obtained from Rosa Rugosa. ‘Podocarflavone A’ is isolated from the plant Podocarpus macrophyllus.
