  1. India has become a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for 2 years after securing 184 votes out of 192 votes. The term India will commence from 1 January 2021, apart from India, Norway, Kenya, Ireland, and Mexico were also elected as non-permanent members for 2 years. The presidency of the United Nations Security Council is rotated between 15 member states (5 permanent, 10 non-permanent) each month. Based on that, India will have the chair of the UN Security Council for a month in August of 2021 and then in 2022.
  2. Urjit Patel has been appointed as the President of the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy (NIPFP). It is an economic think tank located in New Delhi, India. Urjit Patel has been appointed for four years. He will replace current chairman Vijay Kelkar. Urjit Patel has previously been the Governor as well as the Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). He resigned as the Governor of RBI in December 2018.
  3. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan to provide livelihood opportunities to the migrant laborers and rural people returning to their respective states. The Prime Minister inaugurated it through video conferencing from Telihar village of Beldaur block in Khagaria district of Bihar. Apart from Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Jharkhand Hemant Soren and many Union Ministers were also present on the occasion. 50 thousand crores have been allocated for this project. Under the Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan, 25 schemes of the Central Government have been brought together. The objective of the scheme has been set to be completed in one hundred and 25 days by providing employment opportunities to migrant laborers and rural people. Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, The campaign will be carried out in one hundred and 16 districts of Odisha and Rajasthan. The maximum of these 32 districts is from Bihar.
  4. Coal India Limited-CIL has agreed to be a partner in NITI Aayog’s Atal Innovation Campaign. Under this campaign, innovation and entrepreneurship experiments are supported across the country. Related documents were signed yesterday during an e-summit between CIL and the Atal Innovation Campaign. Many programs are being run under the Atal Innovation Campaign to create an environment of innovation and entrepreneurship. These include the Atal Tinkering Lab at the school level, the Atal Incubation Center at the institute level, and the Atal Community Innovation Center in second and third-tier cities and rural areas.
  5. The World Bank will help Bangladesh with more than a billion dollars to improve the economy and generate employment opportunities in the wake of the Corona epidemic. This will encourage private investment in special economic zones there.

Union Minister of Mines and Coal Prahlad Joshi launched a portal called “Satyabhama” (SATYABHAMA – Science and Technology Yojana for AtmaNirbhar Bharat in Mining Advancement) in mining advancement. The portal has been designed and developed stressing the need to promote the role of digital technology in the country’s mineral and mining sectors. The Mines Informatics Division of the National Informatics Center (NIC) is the implementing agency of this portal. SATYABHAMA is also being integrated with NITI Aayog’s portal- NGO Darpan. Through this portal, the central government aims to encourage researchers and scientists to undertake qualitative and innovative research and development work in the mining and minerals sector. This portal will help in increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of various government schemes in this area,
