  1. The International Astronomical Union has announced the names of the newly discovered stars and planets. One star is named Sharjah and one planet is named Brazil. The announcement was made by the League in Paris, the capital of France, on the occasion of its 100-year completion.
  2. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik recently launched a program called ‘Jalsathi’ to ensure the supply of safe drinking water in the state. Under this launch, water quality testing kits and POS (point of sale) machines were distributed to women volunteers, these women have been named Jalsathi.
  3. On the lines of Bangalore Police, Madhya Pradesh Police has also launched the ‘MP e-Cop’ app for women safety. Through this app, women will be able to seek help from the police in any odd situation. Women will be able to give their message to the police by dialing 100 numbers through the app. Apart from women’s safety through this app, the search for the missing, complaint of stolen vehicles and tenants verification can also be done.
  4. The Government of India has approved the establishment of SEZ (Special Economic Zone) in the Sabroom of Tripura, with emphasis on agro-based food processing. The central government will invest Rs 1550 crore in this project.
  5. The Indian Navy, with the help of the Indian Coast Guard, Cochin Port Trust, and other stakeholders, conducted a large-scale anti-hijacking exercise at the Kochi Port. The code name for this exercise was ‘hijacking’ in which several agencies including the Indian Navy, the Indian Coast Guard and more than 12 ships and helicopters of the Cochin Port Trust participated. The purpose of the hijacking was to bring uniformity in the reactive / action mechanism/preparedness because of the hijacking of a ship by anti-national forces, hijacking a commercial ship is a serious challenge for Coast Guard. Action on this requires the coordination of resources and efforts of all stakeholders including the state government.
  6. The Pinak missile system developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization was successfully flight tested from the Integrated Test Range near Chandipur coast of Odisha. Panic is an artillery missile system, which can hit up to 75 kilometers in enemy territory with full accuracy. The Pinak MK-2 rocket has been improved as a missile, with navigation, control and navigation systems added to increase its accuracy and range. The naval navigation system of the missile is also supported by the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System. This rocket system is named after Lord Shiva’s bow “Pinaka”.
  7. China launched its second aircraft carrier from a port in the South China Sea. China has launched this vessel, further strengthening its military ambitions in the region. The US and other countries have been opposing Beijing’s claim on the South China Sea. The vessel is named after the Shandong province. Chinese President Xi Jinping launched it from Sanya in the South China Sea. It is China’s first indigenously built aircraft carrier. ‘Shandong’ is much larger than the aircraft carrier named ‘Liaoning’, which can carry 36 combat aircraft.

Chennai Corporation has launched ‘Madras Waste Exchange’ (www.madraswasteexchange.com), the first waste transaction portal in Tamil Nadu, wherein the municipal solid waste will facilitate buying and selling online. First, it will be run as a pilot project for three months. More features will be added to the website later, based on the feedback from the people who recycled the logo and waste. The Madras West Exchange is a web portal and an application, designed in collaboration with the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry under the Smart City Mission concept.
  9. The central government has approved an expenditure of Rs 436 crore over the next three years to skill 4 lakh professionals for future areas like artificial intelligence, blockchain, and cybersecurity. The Ministry of Information Technology and software conglomerate NASSCOM will jointly launch the ‘Future Skills Prime Time’ program and increase the importance of digital technology among the talent present in the country. This program is also expected to increase employment.
  10. HDFC Bank has become the third Indian company to cross the hundred billion-dollar mark in terms of market capitalization. With this, HDFC Bank joins the Hundred Billion Capital Group, Gimsey Reliance Industries Ltd. with a market cap of $ 140.74 billion and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) with a market cap of $ 114.60 billion. With this achievement, HDFC Bank has now reached 110th position in the list of world’s most capital companies. HDFC Bank ranks 26th in the list of world’s most reputable banks and financial companies with a market capitalization of over $ 100 billion.
  11. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has prepared an advertisement in association with Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar to make people aware of the fastag. NHAI launched this new TV advertisement- ‘Fastag Lagao – Go Ahead, Make India Ahead’ in the presence of Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and brand ambassador Akshay Kumar to make the general public aware.
  12. Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli has surpassed Bollywood star, Salman Khan, in terms of earnings and popularity. This time Virat Kohli is at number one in the list of 100 celebrities of India by Forbes magazine. Salman Khan’s name was topping the list for the last three years. Virat became the first player to top this list. The list is prepared based on the earnings and popularity of the profession and advertisements. The 2019 list has been prepared based on the assessment of earnings and fame made between October 1, 2018, to September 30, 2019. Forbes has topped Virat with an earnings of Rs 252.72 crore. The second number is Akshay Kumar, whose earnings stood at Rs 293.25 crore. Despite high earning, Akshay stood second in terms of popularity, lower than Virat. 229. Salman Khan has reached the third position this time with an earnings of Rs 25 crores. Amitabh Bachchan and MS Dhoni are fourth and fifth respectively.
  13. The NCLAT (The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal) has termed the appointment of Natarajan Chandrasekaran as the executive chairman of the Tata group illegal. On Wednesday, the NCLAT has ordered Cyrus Mistry to be reinstated as acting chairman of the Tata group. Significantly, in the year 2016, Cyrus Mistry was removed and Natarajan Chandrasekaran was made executive chairman of the Tata group. Tata Sons had accused Chairman Cyrus Mistry of returning all classified documents to him, alleging violation of privacy rules. After which Cyrus Mistry had to resign from his post.

In the special session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, the Government’s proposal to implement the inner line under the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulations, 1873 from the Central Government has been unanimously passed. The Government proposal will make it necessary for the Government of India to amend this regulation. All 60 members of various parties voted unanimously in favor of this proposal. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma called it a historic day for the state.
  15. India and the United States have agreed to further strengthen bilateral cooperation and defense trade. The two countries have also agreed to increase synergy with like-minded countries like Japan to make the Indian Pacific peaceful and fight decisively against terrorism. In the second two-pulse-two ministerial talks in Washington, the two countries set a framework for taking mutual relations to a new level in 2020. In this meeting, Foreign Minister S.K. Jaishankar and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and on behalf of the US Secretary Michael Pompeo and US Secretary of Defense Mark Asper participated.

  21. Bengaluru topped the third consecutive year in terms of the highest pay in India. This has been revealed in the Randstad Insight Salary Trends Report-2019. This report, released annually, has been prepared based on an analysis of 15 industries and more than one lakh jobs in eight major cities of the country. The IT sector is ahead in terms of pay.
  22. The Goods and Services Tax i.e. the GST Council has fixed the same tax rate of 28 percent on lotteries, both government and private. Besides, the council has also decided to increase the GST rate on woven and non-woven bags to 18 percent. This was the first time that the council had to decide by vote on the issue of keeping the same rate on government and private lotteries. The GST Council has also decided to waive the long-term lease amount to be paid upfront for industrial and financial infrastructure plots by a 20% or more owned entity of the Central or State Government.
  23. Infosys has announced the launch of three blockchain-based distributed applications. The application will be dedicated to areas such as government services, insurance and supply chain management. Applications are equipped with future returns on investment for business investment (ROI) analytics that will be tailored to meet any industry-specific requirements.
  24. Apple, Amazon, and Google have announced a partnership to create better compatibility between their smart home products. It will also support the Zigbee Alliance, whose members include IKEA and NXP Semiconductors, in the project, titled ‘Connected Home Over IP’. The partnership aims to make it easier for product manufacturers to build products that are compatible with smart home and voice services such as Alexa, Siri, and Google Assistant.
  25. A summit on ‘Environmental Sustainability and Economic Development’ was held in New Delhi. The Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change addressed the summit organized on the problems related to the ozone layer and emission of CFCs and HFCs. He said that now the time has come when there is a need to call a meeting to maintain the minimum temperature and control emissions.

  30. Former West Indies cricketer “Basil Butcher” has passed away. ‘Butcher’ was a brilliant middle-order batsman of his time. He scored 3104 runs in 44 Tests for the West Indies and also scored seven centuries during this period.
  31. France’s “Peugeot SA” and American-Italian “Fiat Chrysler” carmakers have signed a deal to become the world’s fourth-largest auto manufacturer. The two companies have signed a binding agreement to make the world’s fourth-largest number of sales and third largest in sales revenue by world merger with a 50% merger. The combined revenue of the two entities would be around 170 billion euros, or $ 190 million. The joint group will be headquartered in the Netherlands. “Fiat Chrysler” will be headed by “John Alcann” the chairman of the new unit and ‘Carlos Tavares’ chief executive of “Peugeot SA”.
  32. The New Development Bank (NDB), formerly known as BRICS Development Bank, has agreed to provide $ 100 million to India’s National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) Fund of Funds (FoF).
