  1. India has been elected as a temporary member of the United Nations Security Council for the 8th time. 193 countries of the General Assembly participated in the voting. 184 countries supported India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked the countries supporting India. India has been elected as a provisional member for two years. Ireland, Mexico, and Norway have also been elected provisional members along with India. India’s term will begin from 1 January 2021. There are a total of 15 countries on the United Nations Security Council. It has five permanent members. These are America, Russia, France, Britain, and China. 10 countries have been given temporary membership. Five temporary members are elected every year. The tenure of temporary members is two years.
  2. To empower the migrant workers and village people who came back and provide livelihood opportunities, the Government of India has decided to launch a comprehensive rural public works scheme ‘Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan’. PM Modi will launch the campaign through video conferencing in the presence of Bihar Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister at 11 am on June 20, 2020. This campaign is in village Telihar in Khagaria district of Bihar Block- will be launched from Beldaur. Further, Chief Ministers of five other states and Union Ministers of the respective Ministries will also participate in this virtual launch. In the wake of the Covid-19 epidemic, villages in 116 districts of 6 states will follow the program through public service centers and Krishi Vigyan Kendras, following the rules of social distance. This 125-day campaign will be run in mission mode. On the one hand, with a fund of Rs.50 thousand crores, 25 different types of works will be implemented fast and focused to employ migrant workers, on the other hand, infrastructure will be built in rural areas of the country. Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, and Odisha have been selected in this campaign with more than 25 thousand migrant workers from 116 districts, Which includes 27 districts expressing desire. Two-thirds of migrant workers are estimated to benefit from these districts.

  5. The Asian Development Bank has projected the Indian economy to contract by 4% in FY 2021. The decline in the Indian economy was attributed to businesses that had been closed for more than two months due to a nationwide lockdown implemented to stop COVID-19. Also, the Asian Development Bank expects India’s economy to grow at a 5% growth rate in FY 2022, as the country’s economic activity will gradually return to normal levels by then.
  6. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has projected a growth rate of only 0.1 percent for the developing economies of Asia this year. In the estimates, the bank says that if it were to happen, it would be Asia’s lowest growth rate after 1961. Along with this, the Manila-based bank has revised the April estimate, which estimated the growth rate of 45 developing economies of Asia to be 2.2 percent.
  7. The Composite Regional Center (CRC) for Skill Development, Rehabilitation, and Employment of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) have been inaugurated in Ranchi, Jharkhand. The center was inaugurated by Union Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thawarchand Gehlot and Union Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda. It will be the 21st Composite Regional Center (CRC) to serve the needs of people with disabilities in Jharkhand. The Composite Regional Center for Skill Development, Rehabilitation, and Employment of PwDs (CRC) will also provide rehabilitation services for PwDs in the state of Jharkhand and its adjoining areas, including initial support programs. It will also implement various schemes of the Department of Disability Empowerment (DEPWD) under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, including rehabilitation and skill development programs for the differently-abled.

To speed up the settlement of claims through reconciliation and reduce its liabilities, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) started the reconciliation process by setting up three independent expert reconciliation committees (CCIEs). There are three members in each CCIE. These reconciliation committees are headed by retired officials of the judiciary, senior experts in public administration, finance, and the private sector.
  9. Telecom company Bharti Airtel said it had bought a 10 percent stake in education sector startup company Lattu Media (Lattu Kids). The company has made this investment under its ‘Airtel Startup Accelerator’ program. According to the company, Lattu Kids works on digital education for children.
  10. Due to the Covid-19 crisis in Maharashtra, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has launched an air-venti mobile application to help the residents of the city. In this, the statistics regarding the availability of ICU beds and ventilators are constantly updated.
  11. Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Harshvardhan inaugurated the country’s first mobile laboratory for testing samples of Covid-19. This mobile lab is also called i-Lab or infectious disease diagnosis lab. It is being operated with the help of the Department of Biotechnology. This will encourage the testing of samples of Covid-19 in remote areas of the country. It can perform 25 RT-PCR and 300 ELISA tests per day.
  12. French integrated content, media and communications group Vivendi has partnered with Grammy Award winner Ricky Cage for My Earth Concert for Kids. Ricky Cage is an Indian-American musician, music producer, and environmentalist. The event will be live-streamed and broadcast on 21 June on the occasion of World Music Day. Vivendi will organize the event in collaboration with the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) along with other international bodies such as WWF, UN Climate Change, Earth Day Org, 50 Years Earth Day 2020.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the country has taken a major decision to open it completely to promote competition, capital, participation, and technology in the coal and mining sector. Speaking on the occasion of auction of 41 coal mines for commercial mining through video conference, he said that a major step is being taken to make India self-reliant in the energy sector.
