In the data science domain, India achieved the global rank of 51 (backwardness) and secured the 12th rank in the Asia Pacific region.
In the business domain, India secured the global rank of 34 (emerging) and 8th rank in the Asia Pacific region.
In the technology domain, India achieved the global rank of 40 (emerging) and secured 10th rank in the Asia Pacific region.

India is the third top country in the Global Manufacturing Risk Index 2020. The annual Global Manufacturing Risk Index (MRI) report has been released by U.S.-based property consultant Cushman & Wakefield to rank the most suitable locations for global manufacturing among 48 countries in Europe, the US, and Asia-Pacific. Each country has been evaluated in four key areas: Bouncebackability, Conditions, Costs, and Risks. China and the United States retain the top two spots in MRI 2020 respectively, while India has moved up one place from the previous report and THE MRI ranks third in 2020. The MRI 2020 report includes an analysis of the impact of covid-19 on the global manufacturing sector and the ability of countries to resume their manufacturing sectors, once the confinement measures are relaxed and trade starts to normalize.
India and the US sign a Memorandum of Understanding to initiate discussions on petroleum reserves in US soil. A virtual US-India Strategic Energy Partnership Ministerial was organized between Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Shri Dharmendra Pradhan and US Energy Secretary Dan Broilet. The two countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to initiate discussions on cooperation and maintenance of strategic petroleum reserves. It also includes the exchange of information and best practices. With the historic drop in global crude oil prices, India is actively increasing its oil reserves within the country and abroad as well.
The Indian Institute of Technology Madras has developed a portable hospital unit in collaboration with the incubated startup. It can be easily put anywhere with the help of four people within two hours. Foldable Portable Hospital has been named Medicab, with a doctor’s room, an isolation room, a medical room/medical room. Includes ward and a twin-bed ICU. The initiative of the Institute was also appreciated by Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank through a tweet. With the help of this portable hospital, there will be a facility like detection, screening, separation, and treatment of covid-19 patients in local communities.
The Department of Heavy Industry (DHI), Government of India has launched a mission to promote innovation, R&D, and product development in the country for various sectors. Under this mission, e-portal is being created as a technology platform where technology development, information exchange, and innovation can be facilitated. Five portals are being developed by various organizations for specific sectors such as BHEL for power sector equipment, HMT for machine tools, CMFTI for manufacturing technology and ICAT, and ARAI for the automotive sector. The purpose of these portals is to create an ecosystem that will bring together those who wish to solve and solve the problem. These include industry, academia, research institutes, start-ups, professionals, and experts. ICAT is developing a technology platform for the automotive industry, called the aspire-Automotive Solutions Portal for Industry, Research, and Education. The main objective of the portal is to make the Indian automotive industry self-reliant. Aspire Portal has been prepared by ICAT and its first edition has been live on 15th July 2020 under the first phase.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has integrated a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) course for classes XI and XII in the current academic year (2020-2021). The course was developed in collaboration with IBM (International Business Machines Corporation). IBM AI courses are a part of CBSE’s Social Empowerment through Work Education and Action (RID) program. The course will be launched in about 200 schools in Delhi-NCR, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Orissa, Kerala, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Punjab (13 states of India). The AI course was developed by Australia’s Macquarie University and Learning Links Foundation and India’s 1M1B to meet CBSE requirements.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the re-appointment of Shyam Srinivasan as MD and CEO of the Federal Bank. His current tenure is up to 23rd September 2020. Their tenure has been extended up to 22nd September 2021. The bank got its approval on 16th July.
NTPC Limited, the country’s largest power generation company, has signed an agreement (MOU) with the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) working through National Investment and Infrastructure Fund Limited (NIFL). The agreement will explore investment opportunities in areas such as renewable energy, power distribution, along with other areas of mutual interest in the country.
Rosee Ossouka Raponda has been appointed as Gabon’s first female prime minister. She is the country’s 12th PM and will take the place of Julien Nkoghe Bekele. Before taking over the post, Ossouka Raponda took over as Defence Minister in February 2019. He was appointed by Gabon President Ali Bongo Ondimba, the fourth cabinet reshuffle since January 2019.
Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat inaugurated the Smriti Van by planting a plant in memory of the famous folk singer late Jeet Singh Negi of Uttarakhand at the site, Raipur, Dehradun on the occasion of Harel Parv. The Uttarakhand government has decided to make electricity from waste generated in the state under an initiative called Waste to Energy. According to the Uttarakhand Environment Protection and Pollution Control Board (UEPPCB), this waste can generate 5 MEGAWATTs of electricity and curb pollution. The objective of the scheme is to address the problem of non-availability of landfills for disposal of solid waste in hilly regions, 10 out of 13 districts in the state fall under hilly areas. According to state government data, 900 tonnes of garbage is generated every day in the hilly state. Half of the total waste generated is organic, while 17 percent fall into a recyclable category followed by 21 percent biomedical waste and 11 percent inert nature which is producing material waste. Petroleum coke is also called pet coke which is a final solid by-product derived from the oil refining process and is very rich in carbon.
India and Russia conduct webinars under India-Russia Relations in the Context of Post-Pandemic Global order to explore the activation of joint projects in Asia and Africa. The discussions were chaired by the DIRECTOR General of ICWA TCA Raghavan and organized by the Russian Council of International Affairs (RIAC) and the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA).
Hope, the first Mars mission of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to inclement weather conditions, will now be launched on July 20, 2020, from the Tanegashima Space Center in Japan. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) had announced the Emirates Mars mission called ‘ Hope ‘ in the year 2015 to create the first integrated model of the Red Planet (Martian) atmosphere. It weighs about 1500 kg and will carry scientific instruments on one side of the spacecraft, including emirates eXploration Imager-EXI, which is a high-resolution camera, Emirates Mars Ultraviolet Spectrometer EMUS, a for-UV imaging spectrograph, Emirates Mars Infrared Spectrometer- EMIRS) and FTIR Scanning Spectrometer Spectrometer.
The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has sanctioned Rs 795 crore to West Bengal to re-erect the infrastructure damaged by cyclone Amphan. The Cyclone Amfun collided off the coast of West Bengal on May 20, causing a lot of loss of life and property. The Government of West Bengal had demanded Rs. 1,028 crore under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund for repair work of damaged embankments.
Rating agency ICRA has drastically reduced India’s GDP growth. The lockdown to prevent the growing infection of coronavirus in the country has caused a lot of injury to the economy and India’s GDP may come down considerably in this round. The rating agency said India’s GDP growth could remain at -9.5 percent in the current fiscal. Domestic rating agency Ikara has further increased its estimate of the decline in the country’s GDP in the current business year. The agency said the country’s GDP could decline by 9.5 percent in the current trading year. The rating agency had earlier projected a 5 percent decline in the country’s GDP in the current trading year. Ikara, however, has said that agriculture GVA may grow by 3.5-4 percent in the current trading year.
The Ministry of Health has issued guidelines for setting up of small covid facilities as per requirement in the boundary walled residential complexes. The guidelines say that such centers can be created to keep suspected corona patients, patients without symptoms, and patients with mild infections. The health ministry has said that such centers will not allow elderly patients, children below ten years of age, pregnant and lactating women, and people already suffering from many diseases.
The program for the construction of Ram mandir in Ayodhya has been finalized. Bhoomi Pujan will be held on August 3 or 5 for temple construction. The decision was taken at a meeting of Sriram Janmabhoomi Tirtha Area Trust held at Ayodhya. The Trust has decided to invite the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, on the occasion of Bhoomi Pujan. The prime Minister’s office will make the final decision on the date of construction of the temple. Keeping in view the changing scenario in the country after the corona epidemic and tension on the borders, the Rammandir Trust has decided that the final decision on the date of Bhoomi Pujan for the temple will be taken only after the date of the Prime Minister’s visit to Ayodhya is finalized.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar has called for a united nations development program, UNDP. Has shared the details of a report of which more than 27 crore people have come above the poverty line in India in the last ten years. Terming it as a positive achievement, Shri Javadekar said that as per the report, India has the highest decline in poverty in the world between 2005-06 and 2015-16. According to data released by the UNDP and Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative, 65 of the 75 countries in the world studied have shown a significant reduction in the level of poverty.
Himachal has set a target of making a natural farming state by the year 2022. To achieve this, so far, out of 3226 panchayats in the state, 2945 have started natural cultivation. Natural farming is to be introduced in 281 panchayats. The roadmap for the same has been laid down. In this case, Himachal will be the first state in the country where every farmer-Bagwan will cultivate naturally.
Bangladesh Telecom Regulatory Commission, BTRC has issued an order to telecom companies to discontinue free internet service to their customers to use social media. The Commission says that providing free services to customers starts a healthy competition between the companies. The order also says that this facility is also being used by some people to conduct criminal activities through social media. The Bangladesh Commission has given this order after receiving the direction of the Ministry of Information on making the internet safer and maintaining normal competition among telecom companies. In Bangladesh, four telecom companies provide internet services to their customers for social media at free or nominal charges.
The Income Tax Department has completed preparations for income tax voluntary compliance e-campaigns for the convenience of taxpayers. The Central Board of Direct Taxes, CBDT has said that the 11-day campaign will focus on taxpayers who have either not deposited the tax in the financial year 2018-19 or have discrepancies in their returns. According to the board, the e-campaign aims to recognize the tax of taxpayers and their financial transaction information available with the Income Tax department. Efforts are being made to encourage voluntary compliance through this campaign so that taxpayers do not have to undergo the process of notice and investigation, especially in the context of the assessment year 2018-19. Under this e-campaign, the income tax department will send e-mails and SMSS to the selected taxpayers and ask them to confirm the information on such financial transactions, the details of which are with the income tax department.

He breathed his last at his home in Mandavali, Chennai. He was 88 years old. In the year 2009, he was conferred with the Padma Bhushan, the country’s third-highest civilian honor. Seshadri started his career as the first batch of undergraduate students at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research.
Ramesh Tikaram, para-athlete and para-badminton player, who was awarded the Arjuna award due to COVID-19, passed away. He won several medals in Shotput and Javelin throw, including an international meet at Nottingham in 1995. He was awarded the Arjuna Award for his excellence in para-athletics and badminton in 2002. He founded the Badminton Sports Association of India for the Disabled in 2000 and became the Founding Secretary. Which is now known as para-Badminton Association of India.
