  1. Sahitya Akademi has announced the annual Academy Awards in 23 languages ​​for the year 2019. Rural Development Minister Narendra Singh Tomar launched the third phase of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana to increase connectivity with villages with hospitals, schools and agricultural mandi in New Delhi. 80,250 crore rupees will be spent on this phase and it will be completed by 2024-25. The center’s share in this will be 53,800 crore which is 60% of the total cost of the project. State governments will provide a 40% amount. In the North-Eastern states and Himalayan states, 90% of the amount for this project will be provided by the Center and 10% by the State Government.
  3. Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot released the Braille version of the book Exam Warriors written by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. Braille editions of the book in Hindi and English have been printed by the Rajasthan Blind Welfare Association of Jaipur. In this book, the animated pictures and various yoga asanas are explained in detail so that the students will be able to understand it easily. A delegation of the visually impaired presented a copy of the book to Mr. Gehlot before its release. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with the students during the 2020 discussion on the exam. They have been discussing about avoiding the stress of the exam in conversation with the students before the board exams.   5. The government is setting up more than one thousand fast-track special courts for quick investigation and disposal of cases of rape including minors. The central and state governments will bear Rs 7,67 crore on this scheme. The Ministry of Law and Justice has formulated the scheme to set up fast-track courts for immediate investigation and disposal of rape cases under the Child Sexual Offenses Protection Act – POCSO.
  6. The government has introduced GEMs for local shopkeepers. A new e-commerce portal named Samvad has been launched. This portal is a national program to reach out to local shopkeepers. The program was started by Commerce Secretary Anoop Wadhawan in New Delhi. The program will be held by February 17 next year and will cover all the states and union territories of the country.
  7. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy indicated that three capitals could be made in the state by adopting the principle of decentralization. Responding to a brief discussion on the issue of state capital in the assembly, the Chief Minister said that the current capital Amaravati could become the legislative, port city of Visakhapatnam executive and Kurnool judicial capital. Meanwhile, he also said that the final decision on this will be taken only after the submission of the report of the expert committee constituted in this regard. The committee’s report is likely to come in the next few days.
  8. Tech company Realme launched its digital payment service Realme Paisa (Paysa). With this, the company has also entered the financial services segment. The company says that this is the first such full-stake financial service platform. It has been designed in such a way that it will provide loans to small and medium industries of the country including users. The company has partnered with Fishell, a FinTech startup company of Oppo, to provide financial services. Currently, only beta users will be able to use it, soon its Android app will be released, in which facilities like free credit report, screen insurance, and personal loans can be availed.
  9. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has recorded a historic victory in the general elections in Britain, with his Conservative Party surpassing the magical figure of 326 in Parliament. He has been re-elected Prime Minister of Britain. According to the latest data, the Johnson-led Conservative Party is projected to get around 365 seats in the 650-member House of Commons, but the party has started celebrating the victory as it has captured more than half of the seats. The opposition’s Labor Party is projected to get 203 seats, with leader Jeremy Corbyn announcing his resignation from his post, taking responsibility for the party’s poor performance.
  10. The Asian Development Bank has announced a $ 250 million loan to provide loans to the public sector company Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) with the Government of India. Earlier in 2016, the Asian Development Bank approved a $ 200 million loan for EESL. EESL was established under the Union Ministry of Energy to assist in the implementation of energy efficiency projects. It is a joint venture of NTPC, Power Finance Corporation (PFC), Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) and Powergrid.
  11. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced waiving of NEFT, RTGS transfer fees for savings account holders. In an order, RBI has directed all banks to levy fees on online NEFT and RTGS free to all savings account holders. The new rule will come into effect from January 1, 2020.
  12. The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has earned Rs 1,245 crore in the last five years by launching satellites of other countries. In the last five years, ISRO has launched satellites from 26 different countries. In FY 2018-19, ISRO has now earned Rs 324.19 crores by launching foreign satellites, an increase of 40% over the previous year. In 2017-18, ISRO earned Rs 232.56 crore by launching foreign satellites. During 2018-19, ISRO has added Rs 91.63 crore to India’s foreign exchange reserves.
  13. Sridhar Patra was appointed Chairman and Managing Director of National Aluminum Company Limited (NALCO). Currently, he is the Director (Finance) of NALCO. He was appointed as the CMD of NALCO till 31 October 2024. Sridhar Patra will replace the current CMD Tapan Kumar Chand.
  14. The central government is testing prototypes of a messaging application like popular messaging platforms like WhatsApp and Telegram. The State Bank of India (SBI) has signed a $ 277 million (about Rs 1,958 crore) loan agreement with the Kreditanstalt Für Wiederaufbau (KfW) German Development Bank to launch an energy-efficient housing program in India. These programs are part of the Indo-German development cooperation to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal of 2030. Under this program, builders and home buyers will be given financial assistance to build or buy energy-efficient residential projects that save more than 25 percent of energy compared to normal housing. The loan and grant facilities will be arranged by SBI Capital Markets Limited, a subsidiary of SBI in investment banking.
