India’s 1st Cable-Stayed Rail Bridge is being built by the Indian Railways in Kashmir, the train can run on this cable rail bridge in the year 2021. The Department of Industry and Internal Trade Promotion (DPIIT), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, has established five National Institute of Design (NID) in India to impart world-class design education. NID Ahmedabad (with Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and Bengaluru campuses) started its activities in 1961 while the remaining four new NIDs namely – NID Andhra Pradesh, NID Haryana, NID Assam, and NID Madhya Pradesh have come into existence in the last few years. These five NIDs have been declared as institutions of national importance based on an Act of Parliament and are considered to be excellent design institutes internationally. Germany has opened a Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB) which acts as the sole authority for evaluating foreign qualifications in Germany. As part of their work, they maintain a database called Annabin which lists foreign degrees and higher education qualifications to German diplomas and degrees. NID Ahmedabad was included in the Annabin list in the year 2015 and now four other new NIDs have also been included in this database recently. Now that all the NIDs have become a part of this list, its students are required to work in areas relevant to their education in Germany.
The Chief Minister of Assam has announced the upgrade of the Poba Reserve Forest, a significant biodiversity hotspot in Assam’s Dhemaji district, to be a wildlife sanctuary. Declared as the Poba Reserve Forest in 1924, it has an area of 10,522 hectares and is home to a large number of flora and fauna.

The Defense Procurement Council has delegated powers to the Armed Forces to approve immediate expenditure proposals of up to Rs 300 crore to meet emergency action requirements. This will reduce the time taken to purchase defense goods and will ensure the placing of orders within six months and the delivery of equipment within one year. This decision was taken at a special meeting held under the chairmanship of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh.
