  1. India’s important Global Conference on Geopolitics and Geopolitics – Raisina Dialogue started in New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the inaugural session. The fifth issue of Raisina Dialogue is being organized jointly by the Ministry of External Affairs and the Observer Research Foundation. The three-day conference is attended by foreign ministers from 12 countries including Russia, Iran, Australia, Maldives, South Africa, Denmark, Uzbekistan, and the European Union. Iran’s Foreign Minister Javed Zarif arrived in New Delhi on a three-day visit to India amid growing tension with the US. Iran’s foreign minister is believed to be very important to participate in the dialogue, as they are joining it in the ongoing standoff between the US and Iran.
  1. The foreign ministry has appointed Taranjit Singh Sandhu as ambassador to the US, Javed Ashraf to France and Ravish Kumar to Australia as part of a major reshuffle of diplomats. Currently, Sandhu is the High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka and Ashraf Singapore, while Kumar is a spokesman in the Foreign Ministry. Sandhu will succeed in Harshvardhan Shringla at the Indian Embassy in Washington. Shringla has been appointed as the next foreign secretary and will succeed in Vijay Gokhale. Gokhale is due to retire this month. The government has appointed Gopal Bagle, posted in the Prime Minister’s Office in place of Sandhu, as the Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka. Sources said that Ashraf will replace Vinay Quattro in France, who has been transferred to Nepal. Quattro will replace Manjeet Singh Puri, who has recently retired.

The stock market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has extended the deadline for the separation of the posts of Chairman and MD (Managing Director) or Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of 500 listed companies by 2 years. These rules will now come into effect from April 1, 2022. The objective of SEBI is to separate the board and management of top companies. In 2018, SEBI had directed the top 500 listed companies to step aside from the post of Chairman and Managing Director by April 2020. The rules to segregate the post of Chairman-MD are part of the recommendations of the SEBI-appointed Uday Kotak (MD of Kotak Mahindra Bank) committee on corporate governance.
