  1. The convoy of forty CRPF personnel was attacked by a suicide bomber in a vehicle full of explosives on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway at Lethpora in Pulwama. A memorial in memory of these martyrs was inaugurated at Lethpora Camp in Jammu. The names of these forty martyrs are inscribed on the memorial along with their portrait, with the CRPF’s motto ‘Seva and loyalty’.
  2. The government renamed “Pravasi Bharatiya Kendra” in New Delhi as “Sushma Swaraj Bhavan” and “Foreign Service Institute” renamed “Sushma Swaraj Foreign Service Institute” Is done. On the eve of Mrs. Swaraj’s birth anniversary and the former Foreign Minister’s decades of public service and in her honor, the Ministry of External Affairs made this announcement. In addition to the Chief Minister of Delhi, Sushma Swaraj was also a minister in the Haryana government. He died in August 2019 at the age of 67.

  5. IRCTC, an undertaking of Indian Railways, has started booking tickets for the third corporate rail Kashi-Mahakal Express. This train will run between Varanasi and Indore. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will start this train service in Varanasi. This train service will be available to common people from the 20th date.
  6. Railway Minister Piyush Goyal inaugurated the first phase of East-West Metro Rail in Kolkata. Services will begin approximately six kilometers between Salt Lake’s Sector Five and Salt Lake Stadium. The remaining ten decimal six kilometers of the East-West metro line will be completed by December 2021. Over two thousand four hundred crore rupees have been spent on the first phase of the East-West Metro. After completion of the work, Kolkata and Howrah will be connected through this metro. This will be the first service in the country with an underwater rail line, in which trains will run through a tunnel under the Hooghly River.
  7. Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo D’Souza in New Delhi. The two leaders discussed extensively on increasing bilateral relations in various fields including trade and investment. Mr. D’Souza arrived in New Delhi on a four-day visit to India. This is his first visit to India. Agreements were signed between the two countries regarding culture, transport, investment, industry, and intellectual property rights, etc. During this time an agreement was also signed for the development of the establishment of a world-class sea heritage complex in Lothal. The Government of India has allocated funds for this joint venture in the budget 2020-21. 3,150 crore for the Ministry of Culture and 2 for the Ministry of Tourism, in the budget of 2020-21 500 crores has been allocated. Some of this fund will be used for the construction of a maritime museum in Lothal. This work will be done with the help of the Government of Portugal. The fund will also be used for the development of five archaeological sites, these are Adichanallur (Tamil Nadu), Sivasagar (Assam), Hastinapur (Uttar Pradesh), Dholavira (Gujarat) and Rakhigarhi (Haryana). Apart from this, a tribal museum will also be established in Ranchi, Jharkhand.
  8. Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh inaugurated the ‘Anganphou Hunba’ (new crop of paddy) program at Arpatti Mai Leikai in East Imphal. The state government has planned to provide sufficient arable land and water for irrigation to a large number of farmers by the minor irrigation department.
  9. The objective of the One-India, Shrestha-Bharat Abhiyan of the Central Government is to establish cultural exchanges between people of different regions by connecting people in nation-building and adopting a common approach. Nagaland and Madhya Pradesh have been added to this program for cultural exchange. Since the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Madhya Pradesh and Nagaland in 2017, the two states have been organizing various programs under Ek-Bharat, Shrestha-Bharat.
  10. “Rishi Sunak”, son-in-law of Infosys co-founder “Ramrao Narayana Murthy”, took over as UK finance minister. The first Pakistani Chancellor of the post was “Sajid Javid”. Alok Sharma has been appointed Minister of Business in the Cabinet. With this, the number of MPs of Indian origin in the cabinet of Prime Minister Boris Johnson has increased to three. 39-year-old Sunak has been made the chief minister of the treasury.   11. Indian hockey team captain Manpreet Singh has become the first Indian hockey player to win the ‘Player of the Year’ title of the International Hockey Association. He has been adjudged Player of the Year for the year 2019. The award was instituted in 1999. He has been awarded as the better player than Arthur Van Doren of Belgium and Lucas Villa of Argentina, who finished second and third respectively. As the captain, Manpreet Singh ensured the team a place in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics by winning his team in the FIH Olympic Qualifiers in 2019. Manpreet, who replaced the mid-fielder in the team, also represented India in the London-2012 and Rio-2016 Olympics.
  12. Geeta Sen of India recently won the prestigious Dan David Award. Geeta Sen is the director of the Public Health Foundation of India. She has worked in the fields of women’s rights, reproductive health, and poverty alleviation. Geeta Sena has been given the award jointly with Deborah Diniz of Brazil in the ‘Current – Gender Equality’ category. Loni G. of America in the category of ‘past tense: cultural preservation and restoration’ Bunch III and Barbara Kirshenblatt-Gimblett were awarded. In the ‘Future – Artificial Intelligence’ category, the award was presented to Demis Hasabis and Professor Amnon Shashua of the United Kingdom. The award is conferred by the Dan David Foundation, located at Tel Aviv University, the award is named after noted philanthropist and businessman Dan David. This award is given annually. The award is given in three categories: present, past, and future.
  13. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has organized a 2-day “BIMSTEC conference” in New Delhi on the prevention of drug trafficking. The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation – BIMSTEC) conference was inaugurated by the Union Home Minister for multi-sectoral technology and economic cooperation.

  17. Boxer Amit Panghal has been given the top ranking in the 52 kg weight category of Olympic qualifiers. With this, Panghal has become the first Indian boxer to achieve the top world ranking in this category in the last decade. Amit Panghal won the silver medal at the World Championship last year. He is the first Indian to achieve this feat. Earlier, Panghal had won a gold medal in the Asian competition.

Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju has announced that the Union Territory of Ladakh will host the Khelo India Winter Games earlier this month, while such a competition will be held in Jammu and Kashmir in March.
