  1. The government has decided to extend the lockdown in the country till the 3rd of next month. Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing the nation said that all states and people are in favor of increasing the lockdown. The Prime Minister said that all the states, districts and regions will be closely monitored in the context of the management of hot spots and compliance with lockdown rules by the twentieth of this month. After this, important activities will be allowed in states where there are no hot spots.
  2. The Center for Cellular and Comparative Biology at Hyderabad – CCMB is exploring new drugs and therapies using a cell analysis system for the coronavirus. In the cell analysis system, cured patients are treated on a serological basis using antibodies.
  3. The United States has decided to sell Harpoon anti-missile missiles and commemorative Mark 54 torpedoes to enable India to counter regional threats and strengthen India’s domestic defense requirements. It will cost 150 million dollars. The US gave India the status of a major defense partner in 2016. This has made it possible for India to buy advanced and sensitive technology from the USA like other friendly countries. The MK-54 torpedo will provide the capability to destroy submarines.
  4. The Ministry of Labor and Employment has set up 20 control rooms across the country to address workers’ complaints amid lockdowns to deal with the COVID-19 epidemic. These control rooms set up in various cities including Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Kolkata, are aimed at resolving workers’ labor grievances and alleviating the problems of migrant workers in collaboration with the State Governments. All workers can contact their phone, WhatsApp, and e-mail at Callcenter. These are managed by Labor Enforcement Officers, Assistant Labor Commissioners, Regional Labor Commissioners, and Deputy Chief Labor Commissioners.
  5. Hockey India has postponed all national competitions indefinitely because of the extension of the lockdown till May 3. These competitions were to be held from 29 April to 3 July. Mohammed Mushtaq Ahmed, President of Hockey India said that all the competitions of this year are being postponed keeping in mind the interest of all sides including players, coaches, organizers, fans, and officials.
  6. The Ministry of Tourism has launched the Look Apna Desh Webinar series to provide information about the culture and heritage of Incredible India and many sites. The first webinar shows the long history of Delhi. The webinar is titled City of Cities – Delhi’s Personal Diary. Tourism Minister Prahlada Singh Patel said that the series of webinars will continue and the ministry will continue to work towards showcasing India’s diverse and remarkable history and culture. These include monuments, food, art, various dance-postures, natural landscapes, festivals and many aspects of the rich Indian civilization. He said that the main attraction of this webinar series will be tourism awareness and social history. This webinar will be publicly available soon.   7. Employees’ State Insurance Corporation – ESIC has extended the period for submission of ESI contribution from February 15 to May 15 for February. The contribution for March 2020 can also be deposited by 15 May. This decision of the government will provide relief to more than three crore insured persons and 12 lakh employees.
  8. Ordnance Factory Board – OFB has started supplying complete personal safety kits by ISO Class Three Exposure Standards. Initially, it has received orders for supply of one lakh ten thousand kits, which will have to be completed in 40 days. The board has also developed two-meter special tents that can be used for emergency medical status, screening and quarantine. These tents are made from waterproof fabric, steel, and aluminum. The supply of tents has been started.
  9. On April 14, 2020, the 129th birth anniversary of Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar was celebrated. Amidst the lockdown, his birth anniversary is being celebrated digitally across India. The Indian Constitution was drafted under the leadership of Ambedkar. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar was born in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh. It was a small cantonment in Indore district. In 2003, the name of the city was changed to Dr. Ambedkar Nagar. He was a scholar of Pali, Hindi, Sanskrit, French, English, Marathi, German, Gujarati and Persian languages. He has won many awards like Bodhisattva in 1956, Bharat Ratna in 1990. He was also honored with The Greatest Indian Award in 2012. When the tricolor Indian flag was made, it was Ambedkar who placed the Ashoka Chakra in the middle.
  10. After the merger of Corporation Bank and Andhra Bank with Union Bank of India, Birupaksha Mishra was appointed as the new Executive Director of Union Bank of India. Before this, Birupaksha Mishra was an executive director at Corporation Bank. He started his banking career in the year 1984 as a Probationary Officer. He has handled the bank’s credit and credit monitoring business, working in various parts of the country and also led the bank’s IT vertical.
  11. All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) of Rishikesh together with BHEL (Bharat Heavy Electronics Limited) has established India’s first remote health monitoring system. This system is to be used to monitor COVID-19 patients in the state of Uttarakhand. The remote health monitoring system will enable doctors to monitor the body temperature and oxygen of the patients while away. A website and mobile application have also been developed as a part of the system. Patients can use these resources to inform doctors about their illness right at home. The system also provides monitoring kits to patients when COVID-19 is suspected. The system is currently being used to monitor hemodialysis patients in other parts of the world.

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Consumer Unity and Trust Society (CUTS) have agreed to empower consumers to support their governments in the global crisis caused by a coronavirus, including contributing to the global development agenda. The MoU will be valid for 5 years, which aims to launch a joint technical cooperation initiative to support active activities to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of 2030. Under this MoU, CUTS will collaborate e-commerce as a platform for the digital economy to accelerate the transition (change) of member countries and to adapt to the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The Consumer Unity and Trust Society (CUTS) is an Indian-origin institution, which was established in 1983, which provides social justice, Works to realize consumer sovereignty within economic equality and borders and within the framework of environmental balance. The core areas of CUTS are rule-based trade, good governance, and effective regulations.
  13. The CovidGyan (CovidGyan) initiative has been launched by the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), and the Tata Memorial Center (TMC). It is a multi-institutional, multi-lingual science communication initiative launched to bring the scientific and factual aspects of the COVID-19 epidemic into the public domain. Kovidgyan is a hub that works to bring together collections generated through mass-supported research institutes and related programs in India to combat the COVID-19 outbreak. It operates through an online portal that is connected to state mandis.

In this report, the economic growth of eight countries of the South Asian region is expected to decline. This report estimated that India would grow by 1.5% -2.8% this financial year, the worst economic phase since liberalization policies implemented in 1991. Moody’s had earlier predicted India’s growth to be 2.5%. Fitch rating has set India’s growth rate at 2%. The Asian Development Bank has projected India’s growth rate to be 4%.

He started practicing in 1956 from Bombay High Court and in August 1977 he was nominated as Senior Advocate.

  20. Rifat Chadirji, the father of modern Iraq’s architecture, died due to COVID-19. He was credited with designing Tahir Square, Iraq’s most important structures and the iconic Freedom Monument, now Baghdad’s opposing hub. He returned to Iraq in the 1950s after completing his studies in London and designed the capital’s post office and other public buildings, including his famous creation, “The Unknown Soldier”.
