  1. The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) new communication satellite GSAT-30 will be launched on January 17 from the Ariane-5 launch vehicle. The launch will take place from Kourou city in French Guiana at 2.35 am. This will be ISRO’s first mission this year i.e. 2020. Preparation for this is in the final stage. GSAT-30 is a telecommunications satellite designed and built by ISRO. It will work in place of INSAT Satellite.
  2. The world’s largest and sensitive radio telescope in China has begun after a three-year trial. The Telescope established in Guizhou Province is ready in 20 years. It was on trial since September 2016. National Development and Reform Commission official Shane Julin said it would be opened to astronomers around the world. This telescope is 2.5 times sensitive to Puerto Rico’s Arecibo Observatory. The Observatory in Puerto Rico has the world’s second-largest single-radio radio telescope installed. Its purpose is to search for life in distant space and also to find aliens. The Chinese telescope is capable of gathering 38 gigabytes (GB) of data in a second. It is named the Five Hundred Meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST). ‘Fast’ has four times the space range.

The 23rd edition of the National Youth Festival is being organized in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh during January 12-16, 2020, organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Government of Uttar Pradesh. It was inaugurated on January 12, the birthday of Swami Vivekananda. Its theme is ‘Fit Youth Fit India’. Rashtriya Yuva Utsav is being organized since 1995.   10. After Punjab and Maharashtra Co-operative Bank (PMC), the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has banned the Sri Guru Raghavendra Co-operative Bank based in Bangalore. RBI banned Shri Guru Raghavendra Co-operative Bank with immediate effect for alleged irregularities in the transaction. Now no loan will be given to this bank. At the same time, customers of this bank will now be able to withdraw up to Rs 35000 only.
