  1. 73 countries recently participated in the “Climate Ambition Alliance” at COP25. The Alliance is being led by Chile, which was launched at the Climate Action Summit in 2019. The world’s annual climate conference ‘COP-25’ (Conference of Parties) was held in Spain’s capital Madrid from 2 to 13 December 2019. Climate Ambition Alliance will focus on nationally determined contributions to achieve the net-zero goal by 2050.   7. Gurugram’s startup Blue Sky Analytics has won the Copernicus Masters Award, known as the Space Oscar under the Social Entrepreneurship category, for developing an application called “Zuri”. The award was given under the Earth Monitoring Program run by the European Commission (EU), a collaboration of the European Space Agency (ESA). This application uses satellite data for better monitoring, supply chain, and pricing analysis, as well as allocation of crop wastes used as raw materials in other industries. The application is based on AI (Artificial Intelligence) technology – developed to detect and monitor farm fires and stubble burning in India. Every year in India, million tons of straw is burnt in the winter to prepare fields for new crops,
  8. The US, Canada, and Mexico signed new drafts of the USMCA agreement. The 25-year-old North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) will be replaced by this agreement. This new US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) has 34 chapters, through this agreement the trade of 1 trillion dollars between these three countries will be fixed. In this agreement, a few changes related to vehicle manufacturers, labor, environmental standards, intellectual property protection, and digital trade, etc. have also been made. Through this agreement, the US will have access to the Canadian milk market and more cars can be imported from Canada. For the implementation of this deal, the three countries will have to pass laws in their respective countries.
  9. National Tribal Dance Festival will be organized from 27 to 29 December in Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh. The festival is expected to depict tribal folk culture related to them by international folk artists from 23 states and six other countries. The festival will be attended by around 1400 artists from 151 teams from 23 states of the country, as well as artists from six countries including Sri Lanka, Belarus, Uganda, Bangladesh as guests.
  10. Ravi Mittal will be the new secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Mittal is a 1986 batch Indian Administrative Service officer of Bihar cadre. Mittal will replace Amit Khare, who has been appointed as Secretary in the Higher Education Department. Mittal is currently working as a Special Secretary in the Department of Financial Services in the Ministry of Finance. Sushil Kumar will be the Mining Secretary, while Praveen Kumar will be the Secretary in the Department of Skills and the Ministry of Entrepreneurship. Rajesh Bhushan has been made the new secretary of the Rural Development Department and Sunil Kumar Panchayati Raj. It has been approved by the Appointments Committee of the Union Cabinet.
  11. Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) handed over the landing craft utility ship to the Indian Navy.   13. The Sixth India-Maldives Joint Commission Meeting was held in New Delhi. Co-chaired the meeting with Maldives Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid and Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, who are on a five-day visit to India, to pursue the bilateral agreement between the two countries. Three MoUs were signed and exchanged after the meeting. A Memorandum of Understanding includes cooperation between the Election Commission of India and the Maldives and the exchange of a second financial monitoring unit. The two countries also exchanged legal aid treaties between each other in criminal matters. The Joint Commission meeting took place after four years.
  14. The Supreme Court has dismissed the reconsideration petitions filed on the decision of the Ayodhya case. This decision was made by Chief Justice S.A. A bench headed by Bobde did it, Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, Ashok Bhushan, S.A. Nazir, and Sanjeev Khanna. This bench has dismissed all 18 reconsideration petitions.

The Supreme Court has refused to pass any order on the appeal of two women activists to direct the Kerala government to ensure the safe entry of women under police protection into the Sabarimala temple. The apex court said that the issue was very emotional and the court did not want the situation to be explosive.
  16. Railway Sports Promotion Board was awarded in the category of Best Company Promoting Sports at the FICCI India Sports Awards 2019.   18. In the uproar over the Citizenship Amendment Bill, the Nagaland government extended an inner line permit in Dimapur district of the state. The Political Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs of Nagaland was notified to implement the Inner Line Permit in Dimapur. The provision of an inner line permit in the state has been made under section 2 of the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation – 1873. Implemented the inner line permit in the entire Dimapur district of the state with immediate effect. Except Dimapur, the rest of Nagaland inner line permits have been in force since the 1950s. The notification of the Act states that a non-local person will have to obtain an Inner Line Permit to enter Dimapur as it is taken to enter other parts of the state.
  19. Moody’s and DBS, the world’s two leading agencies, have slashed the growth rate of the Indian economy. Moody’s Investors Services has reduced India’s GDP growth forecast for 2019 to 5.6 percent. DBS Banking Group, a Singapore-based financial services company, has slashed India’s growth rate from 5.5 percent to five percent in the current financial year 2019-20. Earlier, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) also lowered the country’s economic growth forecast from 6.1 to five percent.
  20. NABARD and ICAR have joined hands to fight new challenges arising from climate change. The two institutions will work together to implement rural development and agriculture sector plans effectively. NABARD chairman Harsh Kumar Bhanwala said that ICAR’s help would be needed for training workers in the agricultural sector. Agricultural institutions will prove to be very efficient in activating more than 80 lakh self-help groups formed in rural areas. An agreement was reached between NABARD and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), in which it has agreed to work on ‘action research’.
