  1. The government said that for the first time Indian Railways sent a special freight train across the country’s border to Bangladesh’s Benapole. This train has taken red chilies from Guntur and adjoining areas in Andhra Pradesh. The region is known for chili cultivation and the chili here is internationally renowned for its pungent taste and quality. The Railway Ministry said that earlier farmers and traders of the area used to send small amounts of red chilies to Bangladesh via road. Its freight cost was about seven thousand rupees per ton. Its cost through freight trains is only four thousand six hundred eight rupees per ton.
  2. India’s first state-level e-Lok Adalat has started in the Bilaspur district of Chhattisgarh. The state-level e-Lok Adalat was held today in the Chhattisgarh High Court. It was inaugurated by Chief Justice of the High Court Justice PR Ramachandra Menon. The e-Lok Adalat is being held in all the District Courts and Tehsil Courts along with the High Court. This is happening for the first time in the judicial history of the country when the Lok Adalat will be through video conferencing, in which the parties and lawyers will not have to come to the court. The cases will be resolved by mutual consent between the parties sitting at home.
  3. Kesong de Thongdok, an independent filmmaker, won the 2020 Dada Saheb Phalke Award for his documentary “Chi Lupo – Practicing the collection of honey from paved rocky hills”. He is currently working on Khiksaba, a documentary about an obscure festival of the Shertukpen tribe.
  4. The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International, Chicago has honored Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappady K Palaniswamy with Paul Harris Fellow. Paul Harris Fellow Award is given for efficient service to those who provide drinking water, sanitation, disease prevention, environment, world peace, etc. to their people.
  5. The resignation of the Chief Executive Officer of the Cricket Board of India (BCCI) Rahul Johri Resignation was accepted on Thursday after a long time. Rahul Johri resigned on December 27. Rahul Johri joined the board in 2016, which was in agreement till 2021. He resigned after Saurabh Ganguly became board president.
  6. The book ‘A Song of India’ written by Ruskin Bond will be released on July 20, 2020, marking the 70th year of Ruskin Bond’s literary career. The book is the 4th installment in his memoir series (a written record of a person’s own life and experiences). The book portrays his unknown life before becoming a successful writer. This penguin is published by Puffin Books, an imprint of Random House India.
  7. HDFC Bank Limited will help the Government of Jharkhand in digital payments. An MoU has been signed between HDFC Bank Limited and Jharkhand Government Transport Department. HDFC Limited will provide a digital payment solution to the Transport Department of Jharkhand for the entire state. The traffic police will be equipped with POS machines to collect traffic fines. Apart from this, fines can be paid through the online payment facility of the traffic default HDFC Bank. Any traffic defaulter caught by traffic cameras will receive an SMS to pay the fine online. This facility will help the Department of Transport in the state of Jharkhand to collect fines easily.
  8. The Ministry of Roads, Transport and Highways have decided to collect fastag details while issuing fitness certificates of vehicles in the country. The Ministry has written to the National Informatics Center, States and Union Territories regarding this. The Ministry has informed that the work of linking the vehicle portal with the National Electronic Toll Collection has been completed. The Ministry has said that the fastag has to ensure that all vehicles on the National Highway use electronic means for fastag payment and avoid cash payments. FASTAG will also be effective in reducing the chances of spreading of Covid on the National Highway toll plaza.
  9. Recently figures about foreign direct investment (FDI) projects in the United Kingdom in the financial year 2019-20 were released by the International Trade Department (DIT) of the UK government. According to data provided by DIT, India is now the second-largest source of FDI in the United Kingdom. The United Kingdom remains the number one source of FDI in the United States with 462 projects resulting in 20,131 jobs. After investing in 120 projects, India has come in second place. These 120 projects have resulted in 5,429 jobs. In the financial year 2018-19, India stood at the third position with 106 projects resulting in 4858 jobs. 3, 4, for the United Kingdom in Germany, France, China, and Hong Kong respectively in FY 2019-20 The 5th and 6th were the largest sources. FDI for the United Kingdom has seen a 4 percent increase in the fiscal year 2019-20 compared to the previous financial year.
  10. Special Campaign Group of Rajasthan Police – SOG has issued notices to some ministers and MLAs along with state Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot in connection with statements regarding offering money to woo legislators. The SOG has registered a case two days back in connection with a phone recording before the Rajya Sabha elections. Two people have been arrested in this case.
  11. The Uttar Pradesh government has set up a one-member commission to investigate the gangster Vikas Dubey incident. According to the state government notification, this commission will work under the chairmanship of retired judge Shashikant Aggarwal and will have its headquarters in Kanpur. The Commission will investigate the matter within two months from the date of notification. A spokesman for the state government said that the commission would investigate the firing by Vikas Dubey and his associates on the night of July 2 and 3. Apart from this, the commission will also investigate the incident on July 10 in which Vikas Dubey was killed in an encounter with the police. The Commission will make such recommendations and suggestions that such an incident does not happen again.
  12. National Thermal Power Corporation-NTPC has won the prestigious CII-ITC Sustainability Award 2019 for outstanding achievement in the Corporate Excellence category. The company has also been praised for its outstanding performance in the corporate social responsibility category. NTPC has always strived for the sustainable development of people settling around its power plants. NTPC’s flagship CSR program- Under the Girl Child Empowerment Mission, runs four-week residential programs in the vicinity of its power stations to assist school-going girls in their overall development. NTPC has also introduced a labor information management system through which contract laborers are paid salaries on the last day of the month at project sites.
  13. The first bus service was provided to the people of Swabhiman Aanchal (located in Malkangiri district of Odisha) on 10 July 2020. The MLA from Chitrakanda assembly constituency flagged off the bus service. The bus will be operated by Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC), Government of Odisha. From Malkangiri (District Headquarters), the bus will leave for Jodamba (Swabhiman Zone) at 9 am, the return bus will leave from Jodamba at 6 pm every day. The distance between Malkangiri and Jodamba is 190 km. Surrounded by water on three sides, Swabhiman Aanchal was known as a Maoist center for decades. According to the records, between 2008 and 2020, Naxalites carried out 332 attacks on civilians and security personnel.
  14. Two companies named Medicabazar and Zipline have agreed to provide medicines to the people at home. Under this agreement, these companies will deliver medicines to people through drones. Medicabazaar is a Business to Business (B2B) marketplace. It does the business of medical equipment. Zipline is an on-demand drone delivery company. The company serves drones in many countries. Under this partnership, drug delivery through drones can begin by the end of 2020 or in the first quarter of 2021.

VNIR Biotechnologies Private Limited, a subsidiary (spinoff) of the Jawaharlal Nehru Center for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), an autonomous institute of the Department of Science and Technology, has introduced indigenous fluorescence probes and polymerase chains for reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) investigations. Launched Mixture of Reactions (PCR), the molecular probes used in the COVID-19 test kit.   16. Russia has become the first country to complete the human trial of the global pandemic Covid-19 vaccine. Scientists have claimed that its results have proved effective. Researcher Elena Moliarchuk of the Center for Clinical Research on Medicines at Sechanov University has confirmed the completion of a human trial on the corona vaccine at the university. Patients who have been given this vaccine will be discharged from the hospital soon. They will be discharged on 15 and 20 July. He said that research has been completed and it has also been proved that the vaccine is safe. On June 18, Russia allowed two potential vaccines from the Gamalaya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology to be used on humans.   20. Kailash Wednesday, senior signatures of the Hindi world, died in London. 88-year-old Kailash Ji was suffering from psoriasis. Born in Kanpur, Kailash Ji joined BBC Hindi Service in 1970 and retired as a major. He was also the chairman of London-based literary organization Katha-UK.
