  15. The Odisha government has reduced the amount of assistance given to farmers under the “Kalia Yojana” from Rs 10,000 to Rs 4000 per year. The decision was taken by the state government after merging the “Kalia Yojana” with the “Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana”. Keeping similarity between the two schemes, small farmers can be given 5 thousand rupees for 2019-20 and 4 thousand rupees from 2020-21 so that they can get 10 thousand rupees annually. Of this, 6 thousand rupees will be given from “Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana” and 4 thousand under “Kalia Yojana”.

  22. The Citizenship Amendment Bill 2019 has been passed in Parliament. The Rajya Sabha approved this bill. 125 members voted in favor of the bill and 105 in protest. The House rejected the amendments of the opposition parties while approving the bill. The bill was passed in the Lok Sabha on 9 December. It was voted by 311 members in the Lok Sabha and 80 members opposed it. The Bill amends the Citizenship Act 1955 and makes illegal migrants from six communities in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan eligible for Indian citizenship. These communities are Hindu, Sikh, Buddha, Jain, Zoroastrian, and Christian.
  23. US Space Agency NASA recently unveiled the most powerful rocket in human history. This rocket is named “Space Launch System” (SLS). The height of this rocket is 212 feet. This rocket can achieve a speed of 23 Mach (28,400 kilometers per hour). This rocket will be used in the “Artemis Mission”. NASA will send astronauts to the moon under the “Artemis Mission”. The mission consists of eight launches. The full form of “ARTEMIS” is “Acceleration, Reconnection, Turbulence, and Electrodynamics of the Moon’s Interaction with the Sun”.
  24. “C. Sugandhrajamaram” has been appointed as the next High Commissioner of India to the “Republic of Ghana”. He will replace the current High Commissioner Birendra Singh Yadav. C.
  25. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) lowered India’s GDP growth forecast from 6.5% to 5.1% in the current financial year (2019-20). Releasing the latest estimates, the ADB said that consumption has been affected due to reasons like slowdown in employment growth and delay in harvesting. The RBI also reduced the growth estimate in the monetary policy released on December 5 from 6.1% to 5%. GDP growth in the July-September quarter was just 4.5%. This is the lowest in the last 6 years.
  26. The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has launched FASTAG on a pilot basis for parking at Hyderabad Airport. It is being called Fastag 2.0, it can also pay for parking payments and fuel. After Hyderabad Airport, this initiative will also be launched in Delhi Airport.
  27. The Ministry of External Affairs will organize the sixth Indian Ocean Dialogue and the 9th Delhi Dialogue in New Delhi from 13 to 14 December. This will be the first time that both these events will be held simultaneously. The theme of the Indian Ocean Dialogue is “Indo-Pacific: Re-imagining the Indian Ocean through an Expanded Geography”, while the theme of the Delhi Dialogue is “Advancing Partnership in Indo-Pacific”. This year’s theme focuses on maintaining the concept’s growing identity in the strategic and academic fields of Indo-Pacific.
  28. In Odisha, 45 new fast track courts will be set up for speedy trial of cases related to women and children. In these 21 courts will hear cases of sexual harassment and rape of women. While the remaining 24 fast track courts will deal with cases of sexual offenses against children.
  29. The “Inner Line Permit” (ILP) system was implemented in Manipur with the signing of President Ram Nath Kovind. Two days before this, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced in the Lok Sabha that the ILP would be implemented in Manipur to allay the apprehensions of the people of the North-East State about the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019. The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a notification in this regard. In states with the ILP system, people from other states of the country, including people from outside, have to get permission. Local people are given protection about land, employment. Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur is the fourth state after Nagaland and Mizoram to implement the ILP. The ILP system was implemented under the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation 1873. Under Section Two of the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation 1873, citizens of other states require ILP to travel to these three states.
  30. Veteran opener Wasim Jaffer has become the first Indian cricketer to play 150 Ranji matches. The former Indian opener is now just 853 runs away from completing 20,000 runs in first-class cricket.   35. The Union Cabinet has given its approval for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between “Central Electricity Authority of India” and “Japan Coal Energy Center”. In another decision, the Cabinet has approved the Memorandum of Understanding between the “Central Drugs Standard Control Organization” and the “Saudi Food and Drugs Tribunal” from the previous date.

The Union Cabinet approved the proposal of the “Ministry of Road Transport and Highways” in which the National Highways Authority of India has been “authorized to constitute an infrastructure investment fund”. The fund will be set up as per the guidelines issued by the “Securities and Exchange Board of India” (SEBI). With this, the National Highways Authority of India will be empowered to recover toll tax in selected highways.

Indian youth table tennis player “Manav Thakkar” won the ITTF Challenge plus Benex Virgo North American Open in the under-21 category. “Manav Thakkar” has become the first Indian to win the title since 2017. The 19-year-old “Manav Thakkar” became the fourth Indian to win the men’s singles title in the ITTF World Tour Under-21 category with this title win. Before him “Harmeet Desai, Gunasekaran Sathiyan, and Soumyajit Ghosh” have won this title.

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Prakash Javadekar has said that “India has reduced carbon emissions by 21 percent of its GDP” and is on target of a 35 percent emission reduction as per the Paris Climate Treaty Resolution. Addressing the 25th Conference of the countries involved in the United Nations Climate Change Treaty in Madrid, Spain, he clarified India’s stand that emission reduction commitments are being met.
