  1. The World Health Organization has said that it has become a global pandemic after the spread of the deadly Novel Coronavirus Kovid-19 in more than 100 countries. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebriasis said that now the coronavirus has become an epidemic-like threat after its introduction in so many countries. Novel coronavirus, which spread in Wuhan, China in December last year, spread to 105 countries worldwide, killing 3817 people and infecting 1,10,029+ people.
  2. Amid the ongoing political crisis in Madhya Pradesh, senior Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia has resigned from the primary membership of the party. Mr. Scindia, in his address to Congress President Sonia Gandhi, has said that he has been in the party for the last 18 years but now he is unable to serve the people of his state and country while at the party. Meanwhile, Congress has said that Mr. Scindia has been expelled from the party for anti-party activities. Kamal Nath-led government in Madhya Pradesh is on the verge of collapsing following the resignation of senior Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia from the party. Supporting MLAs and officials of Mr. Scindia are also resigning.
  3. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced that Odisha is the first state to start a Mission Shakti Department as a separate department for self-help groups. It is designed for the development of women and is dedicated to all women of Odisha. Mission Shakti and Mamta Yojana jointly benefit 70 lakh, women, in the state.
  4. Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar said that the government will make it mandatory for companies making sanitary pads to provide bags that can be biologically destroyed from January next year (2021).
  5. The 6th edition of the Economic Times Global Business Summit is held at Taj Palace, New Delhi. The summit is organized by heads of government, business leaders from India and around the world, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The theme of the Global Business Summit is ‘Collaborate to Create: Sustainable Growth in a Fractured World’.
  6. The Union Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey launched the “Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship Program (MGNF)” at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Bengaluru in Karnataka. This fellowship is a part of the “SANKALP” (Awareness for Skill Acquisition and Knowledge Awareness) program of the Ministry to promote skill development at the district level.
  7. Union Minister for Women and Child Development Smriti Zubin Irani inaugurated the National Conference on Women in Police and CAPF (Central Armed Police Forces) in New Delhi, India. The conference was organized by the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR & D). Smriti Irani also released a hand-out called “BPR & D Mirror- Gender Bender” and “To Greater Heights”.
  8. Odisha Chief Minister (CM) Naveen Patnaik released a comic book titled The Adventures of the Daredevil Democrat on the occasion of 104th birth anniversary of former Odisha Chief Minister late Biju Patnaik in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The book tells about the life and works of Biju Patnaik, the veteran leader, and the father of Naveen Patnaik.
  9. Kerala will soon launch a digital literacy campaign in Thiruvananthapuram Corporation called “Main Bhi Digital Hain”, which will create public awareness about e-governance and use of various digital platforms through which various types of services are delivered being done.
  10. Nupur Kulshrestha became the first woman to be promoted as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Indian Coast Guard. She joined the Indian Coast Guard in 1999.
  11. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the T20 World Cup team of the tournament. The ICC selected the World Cup squad based on performance in the World Cup which included five players from Australia. Four England players succeeded in making a place in this team. Apart from India’s Poonam Yadav, Laura Walwart of South Africa was successful in getting a place in the team. The only Indian Poonam Yadav has been included in this team’s playing eleven. India’s 16-year-old opener Shafali Verma has been named as the 12th player.
  12. Indian batsman Wasim Jaffer has announced his retirement from all types of cricket on 07 March 2020. Wasim Jaffer has scored more than 20 thousand runs in first-class cricket. Significantly, Jaffer is the first batsman in history to play 150 Ranji Trophy matches.
  13. Recently, scientists at ARCI (Advanced Research for Powder Materials and New Materials) have developed PEMFC (Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cells). This technology will be used to manage natural disasters. PEMFC is a 10 kW system. The technology has been developed at ARCI’s Chennai center. This system will be used to operate a phone, Ethernet, computer, fax, etc. early warning system. This technology will act as a power-house for emergency operations centers. Control rooms functioning during the disaster are now being converted into emergency operation centers.
  14. In the wake of the Coronavirus in West Bengal, Vishwa Bharati University has announced the closure of the Rabindra Bhavan Museum for the general public till further notice. Earlier, the spring festival in the state was also canceled. The Vishwa Bharati University notification states that Rabindra Bhavan Museum, Shanti Niketan Home and Bangladesh Bhavan will remain closed from 8 March 2020 till further orders. However, the libraries of Rabindra Bhavan and Bangladesh Bhavan will remain open.
  15. The Vatican’s “St. Peter’s Square” and its main “Basilica” were closed to tourists to curb the outbreak of the Novel Coronavirus. The Pope’s spokesman said that these measures would continue until April 3 to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
