  1. Telangana Chief Minister K.K. Chandrasekhar Rao inaugurated an 11-km stretch between Jubilee Bus Station (JBS) and Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS) of the Hyderabad Metro Rail Project. With the inauguration of this section, the total expansion of the Hyderabad Metro network to 69.2 km will be operational. Hyderabad Metro Rail has become the second-largest operational metro project in the country. Delhi Metro Rail with an operating distance of 231kms ranks first. The Hyderabad Metro Rail Project has been constructed by Larsen & Toubro and has become the world’s largest public-private partnership (PPP) project with a total cost of Rs 20,000 crore and Mahatma Gandhi Bus Stand Interchange Metro Station is the largest in the country. The metro station is one of which is built with over 3 lakh square feet.
  2. At Potchefstroom in South Africa, Bangladesh defeated the defending champions India by three wickets in the final of the Under-19 World Cup to win the ICC’s first trophy. Beyond expectations, the Indian team collapsed here for 177 runs in 47.2 overs, which Bangladesh broke the Indian team’s dream by securing seven wickets in 42.1 overs.
  3. The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has notified quality control for LPG rubber pipe for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). It will come into force from 1 August 2020. All rubber pipes for domestic, commercial and industrial use will have to meet the IS 9573 norms. This will ensure better security for domestic, commercial and industrial users. Rubber pipe for LPG will bear the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) mark.
  4. According to the Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Mr. Dharmendra Devendra Pradhan, there are around 27.5 crore LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) or LPG connections in India and out of that 8 crore connections have been provided under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). Also, LPG coverage has reached 96.9% as of January 1, 2020.
  5. The World Health Organization has presented a report on female genetic mutation FGM. The report expresses deep concern about the circumcision of the genitals. According to the report, this poses a serious threat to women’s health. To avoid its ill effects, a burden of $ 14 billion is incurred worldwide. The report states that every year more than 200 million women and girls have to face it. This is usually done between birth to 15 years old and has a profound effect on their health, including infection, bleeding or shock. This can lead to such incurable disease, which has to bear the burden throughout life.
  6. The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) is developing a new and advanced class missile, named ‘Pranash’. This missile can be targeted up to 200 km away. This will increase the strength of the Army and Air Force. The ‘Pranash’ missile is an improved version of ‘Prahar’ with a range of 150 km. The Prahar missile is also a short-range tactical ballistic missile capable of hitting solid to surface. DRDO has also developed it.
  7. The Indian Institute of Management Bengaluru (IIMB), Karnataka secured the third rank in Global MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) performance among the top business schools in 2020. MOOCLabs published rankings globally for vocational schools that are offering MOOC courses. It has HEC Paris, France at rank 1.
  8. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved sponsoring $ 2 million in funding to combat the outbreak of novel coronavirus (nCoV). Under the funding, regional technical support will be provided in Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam. The ADB has also partnered with the World Health Organization (WHO) and other regional experts to provide feedback on the 2019 nCoV situation.
  9. The Ministry of Civil Aviation operated helicopter services for the first time from Sahastradhara Helipad in Dehradun to Gauchar and Chinyalisaur under the Government of India’s Regional Connectivity Scheme – Udde Desh Ka Aam Nagrik. Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Shri Trivendra Singh Rawat and Secretary in the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Shri Pradeep Singh Kharola flagged off this service. The introduction of helicopter routes in the Uttarakhand region is in line with the Ministry of Civil Aviation’s goal to increase air connectivity to mountainous regions in the country.
  10. Cipla Pharmaceutical Company, Mumbai, Maharashtra has acquired 4 brands from Vanbury Pharmaceutical Company, Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra. Wanbury received Rs 8.8.60 crore for the sale of the brands.
  11. Former Australian Open mixed doubles champion Abigail Spears of the US has been banned for 22 months after failing a drugs test. Spears, 38, was found guilty of consuming the banned substances pristine and testosterone at the 2019 US Open in New York.
  12. Noted thinker, writer and founder of Indian thought center, Director P. Parameswaran died in Ottapalam, Kerala. He was awarded the Padma Shri in the year 2004 and the Padma Vibhushan in the year 2018. Shri Parameswaran was born in 1927 in Muhamma in Alappuzha district. He worked with veteran leaders like Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and LK Advani. He founded the ‘Bharatiya Vichar Kendram’ in 1982 to promote nationalism among Keralites.
  13. Padmashri Dr. Giriraj, the author of ‘Pehla Girmitiya’, who had portrayed the struggle till Mohandas’s becoming Mahatma Gandhi in South Africa, died. Originally a resident of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, Giriraj Kishore settled in Sutterganj in Kanpur. He practiced literature here. It includes popular novels such as ‘Dhai Ghar’ and ‘Pehla Girmitiya’. Uttar Pradesh Hindi Sansthan conferred him with Bharatendu Award for the play ‘Chehare Chehare Kiske Chehare (चेहरे चेहरे किसके चेहरे)’. The Birla Foundation gave Vyas Samman for the first Girmitiya novel. In 2007 Giriraj was awarded the Padma Shri.
  14. Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat is a unique program showing India’s unity in diversity. It also aims to strengthen the fabric of traditional emotional bonds among the people of the country. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has organized a special 18-day Bharat Shrestha Bharat Abhiyan starting from 10 February. The campaign will run till 28 February. The Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat program promotes a sense of national unity by establishing a close harmony between all the states and union territories of the country. States have been paired with the Union Territories for this campaign. The state of Jammu and Kashmir has been linked with Tamil Nadu, Punjab with Andhra Pradesh, Uttarakhand with Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh with Kerala, Delhi with Sikkim and Rajasthan with Assam. During the campaign, A tribute will be given to Sardar Patel, the iron man who united the nation in unity. Launching a Bharat Shreshtha Bharat program in the year 2016, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that this program can thus become a medium to connect the people of the states.
  15. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced an internship scheme to provide better employment opportunities to students of 10th, 12th and graduate classes in the state. Addressing the employment fair organized by the Labor Department and Employment Office in Gorakhpur, he said that the state government will start the internship scheme this year. Under this scheme, students will be connected to various technical institutions and industries. The Chief Minister said that during internship of six months or a one-year duration, every student will be given an honorarium of Rs. 2.5 thousand every month. Of this, 15 hundred rupees will be from the central government and one thousand rupees from the state government.
  16. Nagaland Health Minister Panganyu Foam has said that no cases of Novel Coronavirus infection have been confirmed in Nagaland. Leader Opposition T.R. about state government’s measures to prevent the spread of infection On the questions of Zeliang, Mr. Pangnyu Foam said that Nagaland is the first state to report on a special surveillance system regarding the status of this virus.
  17. The Chief Electoral Officer released the poll figures after AAP questioned the Election Commission. Voting for the 70 seats in Delhi was 62.59 percent. The northeast district recorded the highest turnout of 68.58 and the lowest in New Delhi district at 56.24 percent.
