Yale University recently released the Biennial Environmental Performance Index. India achieved 168th rank out of 180 countries. In 2018, India scored 27.6 out of 100 and achieved 177th rank. About 32 indicators have been considered to make the ranking. Also, the index has given a 10-year overview of environmental performance nationally and internationally. India only 11 countries; Burundi, Haiti, Chad, Solomon Islands, Madagascar, Guinea, Côte d’Ivoire, Sierra Leone, Afghanistan, Myanmar, and Liberia. The EPI rank of major countries: Denmark is 01, Luxembourg is 02, America is 42, and China is 120.
Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal overturned the order of the Arvind Kejriwal government stating that only residents would be admitted to Delhi government hospitals for treatment of Covid-19 disease. Shri Baijal directed the officials to ensure that no patient is denied treatment on the grounds of not being a resident of the national capital. Earlier, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had announced that only the residents of the capital would be treated in Delhi’s government and private hospitals and the system would continue till Covid-19.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy launched the first online waste exchange program. This program has been initiated to promote safe disposal of toxic wastes and recycling and reuse of toxic wastes. An online waste exchange program was launched on the occasion of World Environment Day. This platform will encourage tracking, audit, waste checking, and proper use of waste. This platform will follow the principles of 6R such as Re-Use, Recycle, Reduce, Redesign, Refurbish, and RemenuFection.
Baby Rani Maurya, the Governor of Uttarakhand, approved Grasain to be declared the new summer capital. Garasain is also known as Bhararisain. There will be an e-Vidhan Sabha in Gairsain. The announcement was made on World Environment Day. The Legislative Assembly of the state is located in the winter capital, Dehradun. The workers of Uttarakhand wanted the Gairsain to become the capital of the state of Uttarakhand. The workers suggested Garasain be the capital as it was falling on the border of Kumaon and Garhwal regions. The city is located in the Chamoli district and is 250 km from Dehradun. It comes under the administrative boundary of the Garhwal Division. The border of Kumaon starts at a distance of 15 km from Garsain.
The Indian Space Research Organization recently signed an MoU with the Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observation Science (ARIES) in Nainital. ISRO and ARIES signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of space situational awareness and astrophysics. Space position awareness includes space body tracking, space orbit analysis, and space weather studies. The main objective of this agreement is to protect Indian space assets from the dangers of space debris. ISRO has also previously signed similar agreements with the University of Texas and Austin.
Rahul Srivastava has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to Romania. He is currently serving as a Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs. He is a 1999 batch IFS officer. Rahul Srivastava will succeed in Thangalura Darlong, the current Ambassador of India to Romania.
Monica Kapil Mohta has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to Switzerland. He currently serves as India’s Ambassador to Sweden. She is a 1985 batch IFS officer. Monica Kapil Mohta will replace Sibi George, the current Ambassador of India to Switzerland. Sibi George has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to Kuwait.
The Indian Air Force has designed, developed, and manufactured an air rescue vehicle named Arpit. It will be used to evacuate serious patients of diseases spread by infections such as covid-19 from remote areas. The Air Force felt the need for such an aerial vehicle to prevent infection during air travel during the covid-19 era. This system developed from indigenous technology cost only sixty thousand rupees, which is much lower than the cost of sixty lakh rupees of similar imported system. It is constructed from very light certified material used to make aircraft. Arpit’s Design Ministry of Health has been done according to the guidelines set by the National Accreditation Board – NABH and Centers for Disease Control of the USA for providing hospitals and medical facilities. It has a transparent and durable high-quality plastic sheet for patient viewing, which is much better than the current models. The system also provides ventilation to the patient with medical monitoring devices. Also, it can prevent the risk of infection in staff and ground crew members during air transport.
India and Denmark have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance cooperation in the energy sector. This agreement between the Ministries of Power and Energy and Utilities and Climate Ministers will strengthen the foundations of strong, deep, and long-term cooperation in the power sector based on equality, reciprocity and mutual benefit between the two countries. The MoU will help in the development of marine wind energy, long term energy planning, forecasting, bringing flexibility to the grid, and increasing power generation by integrating grid codes. The Indian energy market will benefit from cooperation with Denmark. Under the Memorandum of Understanding, a Working Group will be created and the Joint Secretary level officers of the two countries will be its co-chairs.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh held a meeting with the three Army Chiefs and Chief of Defense Staff General Bipin Rawat in New Delhi. The meeting comes after recent talks between top military commanders of India and China. According to various bilateral agreements in the negotiations, a peaceful resolution of the situation in the border areas was agreed upon.

It can be easily used by health workers and common people. It can also be used extensively.
The National Institute of Medicinal Education and Research of Guwahati – Nipper has developed a 3-D system anti-bacterial face shield, multi-layered mask, and objects used in many functions for covid-19. The institute has also signed a memorandum of understanding with Pune-based Hindustan Antibiotics Limited for the commercial manufacture of a 3-D system-resistant antibacterial face shield.
Jitendra Singh, Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions, inaugurated the 18th bench of Central Administrative Tribunal-CAT for Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh through video conference. The setting up of this bench to deal with service-related matters of government employees will not only reduce the burden of various courts but will also enable justice for the government employees to get justice quickly.

The Department of Autonomous R&D under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, International Advanced Research Center for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials (ARCI), and MEKINS Industries jointly controlled the surface infections caused by COVID-19. Taking an important step towards giving convenience to taxpayers, the government has allowed the filing of “Zero GST Monthly Returns” in GSTR-3B form via SMS. This will make GST compliance more than 22 lakh registered taxpayers who till now had to log in to their account on the shared portal and then file their returns every month. Now, these taxpayers with zero liability are not required to log in to the GST portal and can file their zero returns only through an SMS.
Karnataka presented its annual action plan to the Ministry of Jal Shakti for the implementation of the Water Life Mission in the state. The state’s action plan for 2020-21 was approved in a meeting organized through a video conference headed by the Secretary of the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation. The Ministry of Water Power is working with the states in preparing a roadmap for implementing the Prime Minister’s flagship program Jal Jeevan Mission, which aims to provide 55 liters of drinking water per person to each rural household in the country by 2024. Karnataka plans to have 100% of households with tap connections by 2022-23.

Leading public sector undertaking Oil India Limited (OIL) said three experts from a Singapore firm have reached out to help prevent natural gas leaks in Bagajan. Explain that since May 27, there has been an uncontrolled leakage of gas from one of the company’s wells. The company’s oil exploration head said in a statement that Singapore-based alert disaster control experts reached OIL’s field headquarters in Duliajan on Monday. The experts will assist the public sector undertaking to fill the cracks in the gas well in the Tinsukia district.
