  1. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved a capital grant for the feasibility gap funding to Indraprastha Gas Grid Limited for setting up the North East Gas pipeline grid. The cabinet committee has made a provision of Rs five thousand 559 crore for preparing one thousand 656 km long gas grid. The total cost of the gas grid is nine thousand 256 crores. The project has been started under the Centre’s ‘Energy Ganga Gas Pipeline Project’. This project is a very important step towards implementing the Government’s Hydrocarbon Concept -2030 for the North East. According to the project, the eight pipeline states (Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, within the scope of gas pipeline grid Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh). This is the first time that the government is making direct provision of funds for the gas pipeline project. In 2016, a capital grant of Rs five thousand 176 crore was made available amounting to 40 percent of the cost of the Jagdishpur-Haldia and Bokaro-Dhamra gas pipeline project.
  2. The Indian Navy launched its first three-dimensional Maha-Navy Connect 2020 campaign in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The mission aims to promote India’s maritime heritage and spread awareness about coastal security among the coastal communities of Maharashtra. The three-dimensional expedition includes sailing, team races of 50 navies and cycling. The expedition will cover the southern Sindhudurg Fort, located 555 km from the northernmost fortress of Arnala in Maharashtra.
  3. India and Mauritius have renewed the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the Election Commission of the two countries. The MoU was signed by the Chief Election Commissioner of India Sunil Arora and Election Commissioner of Mauritius Mohammad Irfan Abdulrahman in Port Louis.
  4. The Indian High Commission in Bangladesh has organized an ‘art exhibition’ in Dhaka. An ‘Art Exhibition’ has been organized to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The art exhibition showcased the unique photographs of Mahatma Gandhi taking part in many movements in India from the early days of South Africa.
  5. The Vikram Sarabhai Children’s Innovation Center (VSCIC) will be established in Gujarat. The Vikram Sarabhai Children’s Innovation Center (VSCIC) will identify, nurture and encourage innovations of children in the state. The announcement was made during the Children’s Innovation Festival (CIF) in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. Only school-going children and children up to 18 years of age were allowed to participate in the Children’s Innovation Festival.
  6. The Union Cabinet approved the proposal to grant the status of Institute of National Importance to the Jamnagar campus of Gujarat Ayurveda University. Along with this, various courses of Ayurveda will be prepared to suit the national and international demand. Because of the increasing role of AYUSH systems in dealing with the public health challenges of India, giving it the status of national importance will further strengthen the confidence of people in Ayurveda.
  7. Jammu and Kashmir has the highest number of in-patient department (IPD) care registrations in the country. According to the report released by the National Health Systems Resource Center (NHSRC), New Delhi, 96% of public health facilities in rural areas of Jammu and Kashmir are provided by IPD care centers. This facility is the highest against the nation’s average of 85%.
  8. Construction of the country’s first indigenous aircraft carrier Vikrant is expected to be completed by 2021. Currently, its construction work is in the third phase. The work of setting up machinery and installing other equipment such as power generation and propulsion machinery is going on. Sources said that port and sea trials will be approved after the third phase is built. Aviation trials may take up to a year. The ship is being built at the Cochin Shipyard in Kochi. This aircraft carrier will be capable of carrying 20 MiG-29 fighter jets. After INS Virat retired in 2017, India has only one aircraft carrier, the ANS Vikramaditya.
  9. The TESS (Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite) satellite was launched by the US space agency NASA. Recently, this satellite has discovered a new planet named ‘TOI 700 d’, this planet is in the shape of Earth. This planet is 101.5 light-years away from the Earth. NASA has predicted life on this planet. The TESS mission is being led by the Kavli Institute for Astrophysics and Space Research of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. TESS is designed to search for planets orbiting stars near the Earth.
  10. Iran has recently attacked US military positions in Iraq with missiles, Iran fired 22 missiles in this attack. Iran claims 80 American soldiers were killed in this attack. Iran has taken this action in response to the killing of Qasim Sulemani by the US. The US killed Iran’s military commander Qasim Sulemani through a drone strike.
  11. Australia, which is suffering from the destruction of fire, is now going to kill 10,000 camels. Reason: These camels emit one tonne of methane throughout the year, which is equal to the same amount of carbon dioxide. The growing population of camels is also becoming a problem for the country, as it consumes more water in dry areas. Not only this, it is also equivalent to an additional 4 lakh cars on the roads. The local administration claims that the wild camel population doubles every nine years. Here, 1.60 lakh camels were killed from 2009 to 2013.
  12. The Union Home Minister released the book ‘Karmyodha Granth’ written on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that ‘Karmyodha’ is a sensitive person, a fearless leader, a rigorous administrator executive, a competent administrator and an ideal leader, and all these qualities are present in Narendra Modi.
  13. National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) found weightlifter Sarbjeet Kaur guilty of violating anti-doping rules. Sarbjeet failed the doping test. He was banned for 4 years. Weightlifter Seema Dope, who won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games 2017 on December 28, also failed the test. They are banned for 4 years. Sarbjit of Punjab won the National Weightlifting Championship in the women’s 71 kg category in February 2019. His sample was taken by Nada during the 34th National Weightlifting Championship held in Visakhapatnam this year. Former Olympian boxer Sumit Sangwan also failed the dope test. Nada banned him for one year on 27 December.
  14. Indian cavalry Fawad Mirza gave the country an Olympic quota after 20 years. The International Federation for Equestrian Sports (FEI) released a list of athletes qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics. Earlier Wing Commander LJ Lamba played for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and Imtiaz Anees played the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Mirza has become the first Indian equestrian to officially qualify for the Tokyo Olympics. He won the country in the singles category after 36 years at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games.
  15. Indian-origin writer Jasbinder Bilan has been awarded the U.K. Children’s Book Award for her debut novel Asha and the Spirit Bird. In this novel, the writer presents the life story of her childhood from the perspective of the Himalayan Mountains. They will be given a sum of five thousand pods as a reward for this book.
  16. The 4th edition of the ‘Baksa Bird Festival’ started at Baksa National Park, located in the Alipurduar district of West Bengal. The festival is expected to bring over 50 birdwatchers from India and abroad. More than 300 rare species including Sultan Tit, Greater Spotted Eagle and Great Hornbill will be the center of attraction in the National Park during the Festival.
  17. Delhi’s Chief Electoral Officer Ranbir Singh has said that booth-app will be used in 11 assembly constituencies in next month’s assembly elections in the national capital. Photo voter slips will be issued in these constituencies and voters will be able to cast their votes after the QR code is scanned at the polling booth.
  18. More than eight crore farmer families have benefited under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Yojana. This scheme was started in February last year, in which every eligible farmer has to provide Rs. 6 thousand per year in three equal installments at the rate of two thousand rupees per installment. The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has said that an amount of Rs 48 thousand nine hundred 37 crore has been released so far under this scheme. The scheme first included small and marginal farmers with two hectares of land. Later, the government extended the scheme to all farmers by removing the land limit. The new facility has been made available on PM Kisan web-portal- www.pmkisan.gov, through which farmers can register themselves and they can change their name as per Aadhaar card. The facility of registration or correction of data is available to the farmers at the Common Service Center.

  23. Two Indian private sector banks, Axis and ICICI Bank are going to close their business in Sri Lanka after getting approval from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), the agency that sets the rules for electricity savings, said that the default (automatically set) temperature of room air conditioners (AC) will now be 24 degrees Celsius. This means that the AC will run at room temperature of 24 degrees. However, the user can do it up and down according to his needs. According to a statement from the Union Ministry of Power, the government in consultation with BEE had notified the energy-saving standards for room ACs on October 30, 2019. Accordingly, manufacturers will be required to keep the temperature setting in the room air conditioner at 24°C.
  26. The Reserve Bank of India has offered select banks to trade in Indian Rupees round-the-clock (round-the-clock), allowing Indian banks to secure their foreign currency risks at any time. Selected banks in India offered foreign exchange rates to Indian customers only during banking hours from 9 am to 5 pm. This decision will attract more offshore currency markets from countries like Dubai and Singapore to Indian investors.
  27. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has launched the Ministry of Defense (MoD) No Objection Certificate (NOC) web portal www.modnoc.ncog.gov.in to conduct aerial photography / remote sensing survey with the final permission of Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
