The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Submarine Optical Fiber Cable (OFC) connecting Chennai and Port Blair through video conferencing on August 10, 2020, and dedicate it to the nation. This submarine cable will also connect Port Blair to Swaraj Island (Havelock), Little Andaman, Car Nicobar, Kamorta, Great Nicobar, Long Island, and Ranget. With this, Andaman & Nicobar Islands like other parts of India will also get faster and more reliable mobile and landline telecom services. The foundation stone of this project was laid by Hon’ble Prime Minister on 30 December 2018 in Port Blair. Once inaugurated, the Submarine OFC link will provide 2 x 200 gigabytes per second (GBP) between Chennai and Port Blair and 2 x 100 GBP between Port Blair and other islands. Trustworthy in these islands, The availability of strong and high-speed telecommunications and broadband facilities will be a historic achievement from consumers as well as strategic and governance objectives. There will also be a significant improvement in 4G mobile services, which have been disrupted so far due to the limited backhaul bandwidth received via satellite. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) implemented the project, while Telecommunication Consultants India Limited (TCIL) is the technical advisor. Around 2300 km of submarine OFC cable has been laid at a cost of about Rs 1224 crore and the project is completed on time.   2. The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi will inaugurate the ‘National Sanitation Center’ on August 8, 2020, which is an interactive center on the Swachh Bharat Mission. As a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, the National Sanitation Center (RSK) was first announced by the Prime Minister on 10 April 2017 on the occasion of the centenary celebrations of Gandhiji’s Champaran Satyagraha.
