The foundation stone of this project was laid by Hon’ble Prime Minister on 30 December 2018 in Port Blair. Once inaugurated, the Submarine OFC link will provide 2 x 200 gigabytes per second (GBP) between Chennai and Port Blair and 2 x 100 GBP between Port Blair and other islands. Trustworthy in these islands, The availability of strong and high-speed telecommunications and broadband facilities will be a historic achievement from consumers as well as strategic and governance objectives. There will also be a significant improvement in 4G mobile services, which have been disrupted so far due to the limited backhaul bandwidth received via satellite. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) implemented the project, while Telecommunication Consultants India Limited (TCIL) is the technical advisor.
