  1. Iran has announced that it will no longer accept any restrictions imposed under the 2015 nuclear deal. It has said that it will no longer comply with limitations on nuclear enrichment capacity, level of enrichment, stock of augmented material or research and development. Under the 2015 nuclear deal, Iran agreed to allow international inspectors to investigate in exchange for limiting their sensitive nuclear activities and lifting stringent economic sanctions. There is widespread tension over the issue of Iran’s general Qasim Sulemani being killed by the US in Baghdad.
  2. Uttar Pradesh has become the first state in the country where the process of the Citizenship Amendment Act has been started first. Under the Citizenship Amendment Act, instructions have been given to identify minorities from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. The North Government has instructed all the district collectors of the state to start the work of making the list of migrants. This exercise will also identify those who are living illegally in the state.
  3. The neutral pronoun word ‘they’ has been chosen by American language experts for the Word of the Decade. The word ‘they’ has been used extensively in English by individuals who identify themselves as neither men nor women. They prefer to be identified by the plural neutral pronoun rather than the traditional pronoun of ‘he’ for male or ‘she’ for female.
  4. A directional facility for visually impaired was introduced at Chandigarh railway station. This facility has been started by the Indian Railway Station Development Corporation through the non-governmental organization Anuprasa. Chandigarh has become the fifth such station in the country and the first railway station in North India. With this facility, visually impaired travelers will be able to get information about passenger facilities at Chandigarh railway station.
  5. Home Minister Amit Shah laid the foundation stone of the Delhi Cycle Walk Project in Tughlakabad in the national capital. The project aims to make the city the most moveable and environmentally friendly. This is the first phase of 36 km under a network of 220 km long. This cycle walk will pass through forests, residential areas, and workplaces.
  6. Gyal P Wangyal, Chairman and Chief Executive Councilor of Leh Hill Council in Ladakh, sent the first batch of tourists from Leh to Chadar Track-2020. Nearly ninety tourists left for this exciting track on the first day.
  7. An international team of NASA-funded astronomers has discovered the farthest galaxy cluster called EGS77. EGS77, a trio of galaxies discovered at a time when the universe was only 680 million years old, or less than 5% of its current age of 13.8 billion years. EGS77 is the farthest cluster of galaxies seen for the first time. EGS77 was discovered as part of the Cosmic Deep and Wide Narrowband (Cosmic DAWN) survey. The team of astronomers was led by Indian-born Goa-born scientist Vithal Tilvi.
  8. Himachal Pradesh government has released a portal called Himachal Mai Gov in Shimla, which aims to increase people’s participation in government business. This initiative makes Himachal Pradesh the 11th state in the country with this facility. While releasing the portal, Chief Minister Jayaraj Thakur said that through this, people of the state can also register their views, suggestions, responses, and complaints.
  9. The Indian Army will sign an agreement with Russia for the purchase of the AK-203 assault rifle. Under this deal, one lakh Rifles will be imported from Russia while the remaining rifles will be manufactured in India. The rifle will be manufactured by IRRPL (Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited) in Korwa, Uttar Pradesh, in which India holds a 50.5% stake while Russia holds a 49.5% stake. The Indian Army recently received 10,000 SIG-716 assault rifles from the US, for which the deal was signed in February 2019. Currently, INSAS (Indian National Small Arms System) rifles are used in the Indian Army.
  10. West Bengal government will provide insurance of five lakh rupees for Ganga Sagar pilgrims. Making this announcement, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that the administration has made necessary arrangements for drinking water supply and accommodation facilities for the devotees. On the occasion of Makar Sankranti, thousands of pilgrims gather at Sagar Deep for the holy bath at the confluence of Hubli River and Bay of Bengal to offer prayers at Kapil Muni Temple.
  11. The Defense Exhibition-2020 will be held in Lucknow for the first time from February 5 to 9. This will be the largest exhibition ever held in the country in terms of the number of exhibitors, its exhibition area and the revenue generated from the exhibition. It will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  12. Union Home Minister Amit Shah laid the foundation stone of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Academy in Nagpur, Maharashtra. In this academy, training will be given to deal with all types of disasters. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was established in 2006 to deal with disasters. The NDRF is a force acting in times of disaster, it was established in the year 2006 under the Disaster Management Act, 2005. The headquarters of the NDRF is located in New Delhi.
  13. P Mangesh Chandran of India has won the prestigious 95th Hastings International Chess Congress title while being unbeaten in nine rounds at Hastings, England. In the final round, Grandmaster Chandran, India’s only Grandmaster G.A. Playing the draw with Stiney, he earned seven and a half points in nine rounds and won the title. Chandran defeated India’s Grandmaster Deep Sengupta in the eighth round.
  14. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal inaugurated the Knowledge Hub at the National Stock Exchange Complex in New Delhi. This center has provided facilities for learning about economic activities through Artificial Intelligence. Banks, financial services and insurance sector (BFSI) will benefit greatly from this. Mr. Goyal said that Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning will contribute one thousand billion dollars to the Indian economy by 2035.
  15. Kolkata Police has started the third edition of the ‘Sukanya’ project. The project aims to provide self-defense training to girls studying in schools and colleges in the city. The third batch of ‘Sukanya’ was started in 100 city-based schools and colleges under the jurisdiction of Kolkata Police. The Sukanya project is an initiative of the Community Policing Wing of Kolkata Police to provide self-defense training to girl students of schools, colleges, and universities in the city. This initiative is funded by the Women and Child Development and Social Welfare Department of the state government.
  16. The Ujala (Jyoti Upgraded by Affordable LED for All) and SLNP (National LED Street Lighting Program) schemes launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 5 January 2015, completed five successful years. SLNP is the world’s largest street light replacement program. Ujala is the world’s largest domestic lighting project. Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) has implemented both these schemes. EESL is a joint venture of public enterprises under the Ministry of Energy.
  17. The Women’s Science Congress was inaugurated at the ongoing Indian Science Congress in Bangalore. On this occasion, Dr. Tacy Thomas, Director General of DRDO’s Aeronautical System and Missile Woman of India was the Chief Guest.   18. Indian shooter Saurabh Chaudhary has won the men’s 10m air pistol gold medal at the 63rd National Shooting Championship in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Haryana’s Sarabjot Singh finished second, while world number two Abhishek Verma won the bronze medal in the high-quality finals. Abhishek and Sarabjot together won Team Gold for Haryana. Sarabjot also won Junior Men’s Gold.
  19. Former Karnataka Governor TN Chaturvedi passed away. He served as the 14th Governor of Karnataka from 2002 to 2007. He also held the post of Comptroller and Auditor General of India from 1984 to 1989. He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 1991.

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ), the largest private-sector port operator in India, has agreed to acquire a 75% stake in Krishnapatnam Port Company Limited (KPCL) valued at Rs 13,572 crore. Krishnapatnam Port is a multi-cargo facility located in the southern part of Andhra Pradesh. Which carried 54 million tonnes of cargo in the year ended 31 March 2019. The deal will help him achieve the target of achieving 40 million metric tonnes capacity by 2025.
  21. EVI Technologies (EVIT), an electric vehicle charging company, has said that it has joined hands with state-owned telecom company BSNL to develop charging infrastructure. Under this agreement, the company along with BSNL will build the station for battery charging and replacement. The two companies have an agreement for 10 years. According to this, EVIT will bring its charging stations to five thousand locations of BSNL across the country. Under this, all major cities will be covered.
