  1. RBI also did not change the repo rate this time. It has been retained at 5.15%. RBI has released a GDP growth forecast of 6% in the next financial year (2020-21). The previous estimate of 5% growth in the current financial year (2019-20) has been retained.

This report states that licensing, transfer of technology, difficult requirements of registration in India, the limited framework for the protection of bio-pharmaceutical intellectual property, There is a need to improve the lengthy process, etc. This index evaluates countries based on 45 indicators such as patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secret protection, etc.
  3. Moody’s Investors Service recently released its estimates regarding India’s GDP growth rate. Moody’s has projected India’s economic growth to be 5.5% in FY 2020-21 before Moody’s had projected India’s GDP growth to be 6.3% in 2020-21. The Economic Survey of the Government of India has estimated GDP growth at 6-6.5%. According to Moody’s, India’s GDP growth rate will be 4.9% in the current financial year.   5. The Union Cabinet approved an amendment to the Banking Regulation Act to strengthen cooperative banks in the country. The proposed legislation proposes to implement the Reserve Bank of India’s banking-regulation guidelines in cooperative banks as well. But in administrative matters, these banks will be governed by the guidelines of the Registrar of Co-operatives. This move will bring more accountability and transparency in the functioning of cooperative banks. Co-operative banks, like scheduled commercial banks, should meet the banking regulation conditions.
  6. America’s Christina Koch returned to safe Earth, setting a new record for the longest-lived female astronaut in space. She stayed at the International Space Station (ISS) for 328 days. Earlier this record was named after another astronaut of the US space agency NASA, Peggy Whitson. She had been on ISS for 289 days. Michigan-born Christina went to the space station on March 14 last year.
  7. America’s business magazine CEO World has released a list of expensive and cheap countries by surveying 132 countries of the world. People’s living has been made the basis in this. Switzerland tops the list of most expensive countries in the world, Norway is second and Iceland is third.   8. 11 MoUs were signed between India and Russia on the second day of the Defense Exhibition-2020 in Lucknow, capital of Uttar Pradesh. Major companies between the two countries became part of these MoUs during the fifth India-Russia defense industry meeting. They included BHEL, Bharat Dynamics Limited and Vista Control from India, while Inversia, UV Z, and B from Russia. EML was involved. The MoU is related to the production of various defense equipment including T-72, T-90, Radar Systems, ASV Rocket Launcher, and 3D Modeling Parts. The first India-Africa Defense Conference is also going on in which Defense Minister Rajnath Singh is participating.

  10. Sports Authority of India and Hockey India have announced to set up high-performance centers for junior and sub-junior players in seven cities of the country. The aim is to prepare talent for the Olympics of 2024 and 2028. These SAI centers will start in the next three months at Major Dhyanchand National Stadium in Delhi, National Hockey Academy, Sundargarh, Bhopal, and Bengaluru in Odisha, while the remaining three centers in Imphal, Pune, and Ranchi will be started in the next one year. These academies will be started under the Khelo India scheme.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India – Avishek, son of former BCCI President Late Jagmohan Dalmiya, has become the youngest president of the Cricket Association of Bengal elected unopposed. The 38-year-old Avishek was the joint secretary of this organization before becoming president. Snehasish Ganguly, elder brother of BCCI President Saurabh Ganguly, has now become the new joint secretary. Avishek has become the 18th President of the Bengal Cricket Association. The post of president of the Bengal Cricket Association was vacant after Saurabh Ganguly became BCCI president.
  12. Rakhi Haldar of Bengal has won the gold medal in the 64 kg category at the 35th Senior Women’s National Weightlifting Championships. In Kolkata, Haldar lagged behind her best and won the gold medal by lifting 93 kg in the snatch category and 117 kg in the clean and jerk category. At the Commonwealth Championships in June 2019, Haldar lifted the gold medal by lifting 214 kg. He is also an employee of Indian Railways.

The procurement of crude oil from Russia through long-term contracts is a part of the Indian strategy of diversifying the supply of crude oil from non-OPEC countries to the country. Along with this, it is also a part of the Five Year Roadmap for Bilateral Cooperation in the Hydrocarbon Sector, which was signed during the visit of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to Vladivostok last September.
  15. Indian Oil has raised a minority equity stake in Israel’s battery developer, Finland, to jointly manufacture electric vehicle metal-air batteries in India. This collaboration helps in the field of Al-Air Battery Systems which includes research and development, optimization, manufacturing, assembly, sales and service of aluminum air power system technology. Finland specializes in aluminum-air (Al-Air) and zinc-air battery systems. This technology is also a priority because aluminum is available in abundance in India and their extraction and recycling techniques are also well established.
  16. APEDA (Agriculture and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority) recently organized the first awareness program in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It was organized in association with the Andaman and Nicobar Industries Directorate. In this program, the emphasis was placed on the export promotion of agricultural products.
