  1. India has given USD 15.5 million to the India-United Nations Development Partnership Fund, as part of its commitment to support developing nations in their developmental priorities towards the Sustainable Development Goals. All developing countries are eligible for participation in this total fund of US $ 15.46 million, including an overall fund of US $ 6 million, and of which the US $ 9.46 million is dedicated to Commonwealth countries. The check for this amount is the permanent representative of India in the United Nations, T.S. Tirumurthy handed over to George Chediak, director of the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation.
  2. In the Union Budget 2020-21, the Finance Minister had announced the creation of a seamless national cold supply chain for perishable products including milk, meat, and fish. It was also said that Indian Railways will introduce a farmer rail. Indian Railways is starting the first farmer train from Devlali between Devlali and Danapur on 7 August 2020 at 11 am. This train will run weekly with an initial structure of 10+1 VPS. This will be the first multi-commodity train so far.
  3. Girish Chandra Murmu, former Lieutenant Governor of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, was appointed as Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG). Murmu resigned as Lt. Governor. Murmu was the first Lieutenant Governor of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Right now Rajiv Maharishi is a CAG and he is retiring this week.
  4. President Ram Nath Kovind has appointed former Union Minister Shri Manoj Sinha as the new Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier, Mr. Girish Chandra Murmu had resigned from the post of Lt. Governor of Jammu & Kashmir which has been accepted by the President. Former Union Minister and alumnus of Indian Institute of Technology-BHU (IIT-BHU) Manoj Sinha representing Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur constituency has been elected a total of 3 times as an MP.
  5. Reserve Bank of India Governor Shaktikanta Das has said that the Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee has unanimously decided to keep the repo rate at 4 percent. He said the bank would continue to revise the monetary policy to maintain growth and reduce the impact of Covid. Addressing the concluding session of the three-day meeting of the Monetary Committee, he said that the marginal standing facility rate and the bank rate would remain at four decimal two five percent. He also said that the reverse repo rate will also remain at three decimal three five percent.
  6. According to the Ministry of Personnel, Ajay Tyagi’s tenure as chairman of market regulator SEBI has been extended for another 18 months. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the extension of Tyagi’s tenure from 18 months i.e. from September 1, 2020, to February 28, 2022.
  7. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has launched “Shaheed Mahendra Karma Tendupatta Sangharsh Samaj Suraksha Yojana”, a social security scheme for Tendupatta collectors in the state. Tendu leaves used to make beedis (leaves wrapped on beedis), are collected by the forest dwellers of the state and then purchased by the state government. The scheme, named after Congress leader Mahendra Karma, was inaugurated on the occasion of his birth anniversary.

The Women Entrepreneurs and Empowerment Group-WEE cohort is an initiative that inspires entrepreneurship from college students to domestic women to adopt entrepreneurship as a satisfactory employment option. This is the first attempt of its kind in India. IIT sponsored and supported by the Department of Science and Technology. In this Delhi program, efforts are made to make the working environment more women-friendly.

The Defense Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), Pune, an autonomous organization under the Department of Defense Research and Development, DRDO, has won the first prize at the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) -2020. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi interacted with the participants in the event’s live event. SIH-2020 was jointly organized by the Ministry of Human Resource Development and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) at Noida Institute of Engineering and Technology (NIET), Uttar Pradesh from 1- 3 August 2020. The SIH-2020 was a national level competition based on a 36-hour non-stop digital product manufacturing. “Edge of Ultron”, a six-member DIAT student team under the guidance of Dr. Sunita Dhawal Won the first prize of Rs 1 lakh for solving the problem statement MS 331 presented by the Madhya Pradesh government in the category of software. The team presented a solution titled “Vision” for facial, expression, and gesture recognition using artificial intelligence.
  11. Recently, the Chief Minister of Punjab has written a letter to the Indian Prime Minister demanding personal intervention against the demand of Geographical Indicator (GI) tag for basmati rice by Madhya Pradesh. Significantly, Madhya Pradesh has demanded to include 13 of its districts for GI tagging of Basmati. Apart from Punjab, some districts of Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Western Uttar Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir have already got GI tag for Basmati. The Punjab Chief Minister said that India exports basmati worth Rs 33,000 crore every year. But any change in registration of basmati can benefit Pakistan in the international market on the characteristics and quality scale of basmati which produces basmati according to GI tagging.

The construction of a dedicated railroad (DFC) for freight trains should be done entirely with the New Track Construction (NTC) machine, encouraging the efforts of railways to use the technology to make the construction of infrastructure.
