  1. The Global Climate Risk Index was recently released by the environmental think tank Germanwatch. According to the report, in the last 20 years, a total of 12,000 meteorological events have killed about 500,000 people and caused a loss of about $ 3.54 trillion. According to the Global Climate Risk Index, Japan, the Philippines, and Germany were found to be the countries most affected by climate change in 2018, followed by Madagascar, India (5th) and Sri Lanka respectively. In addition to the Kerala floods in India, the eastern coasts also faced butterfly and Gaza storms, in which about 1000 people lost their lives. The floods in Kerala proved to be the most disastrous in the last 100 years, in which around 2,20,000 people had to leave their homes.
  2. This time the RBI did not make any change in the repo rate (5.15%) against the expectations. That is, the loans will not be cheap anymore. All 6 members of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) voted in favor of keeping interest rates stable. The central bank has reduced the GDP growth estimate for the current fiscal year to 5%.   3. India has asked France to expedite delivery of the “Meteor Missile”. With these missiles, India will be able to compete with AMRAAM missiles provided by the US to Pakistani Air Force. Delivery of these missiles to India is due in 2020, but India is demanding for early delivery of these missiles. India is seeking advance delivery of at least 10 “Meteor Missiles” for the first Rafale fighter jets. India will get the first shipment of Rafale jet by May 2020. Meteor missile is an air-to-air missile with a range of 150 km. India will use these missiles with Rafale fighter jets.
  4. Recently, the Parliament has passed the SPG (Amendment) Bill. According to this bill, when the SPG cover of a former prime minister is removed, the SPG cover of his family members will also be removed. The Special Protection Group Act, 1988 has been amended under this bill. The Special Protection Group (SPG) was established on 2 June 1988. It employs more than 3000 employees. It was created in 1988 by the Indian Parliament Act.
  5. The Union Cabinet approved the proposal to extend the period of reservation for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes to another 10 years in the Lok Sabha and State Legislatures. A proposal to this effect was approved in a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The reservation period for these categories in Lok Sabha and Legislative Assemblies was to end on 25 January 2020. The government will bring a bill in this session to increase the duration of the reservation.
  6. Union Human Resource Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ and Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mr. Kiren Rijiju jointly launched the Fit India School Rating System. The ‘Fit India School Rating System’ has been launched under the Fit India campaign. The fit India school rating system is expected to improve the image of schools as per the specific criteria laid down. The Fit India program is an innovative initiative launched by the Prime Minister to raise awareness among citizens and encourage people to adopt healthy lifestyles.
  7. The 8th joint training exercise ‘Hand-in-Hand 2019’ will be organized in Umroi, Meghalaya from 07 to 20 December 2019 on the subject of combating terrorism under the UN order between India and China. In this 14-day training exercise, 130 soldiers of the Tibet Military Command and an equal number of Indian military personnel will participate on behalf of the Chinese team. The objective of the exercise is to conduct joint planning and counter-terrorism operations in a semi-urban area.
  8. The Fit India plague run began on 2 October 2019 and ended on 5 December 2019 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi. During the closing ceremony, Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju honored Ripu Daman Bewali, popularly known as Plogeman of India, and declared him as Plodge Ambassador of India. The Sports Minister also announced the launch of the Plog Ambassador mission across the country, under which Plog ambassadors will be appointed in every district. Plog run is a unique way of cleaning the waste from the streets while jogging. Plogging was made part of the Fit India campaign as part of a campaign to add cleanliness and health. Bali started plogging in 2017. To make India waste-free, he started the Fit India Plog Run to cover more than a thousand kilometers in 50 cities in two months. In two months, 2.7 tonnes of garbage was collected during this campaign.
  9. PNB scam accused Nirav Modi (48) was declared a fugitive economic offender by the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had filed a petition against Nirav. Nirav has been declared the second fugitive of the country under the Fugitive Economic Offenders Act. In January, the PMLA court declared liquor baron Vijay Mallya as a fugitive.
  10. Former England fast bowler Bob Willis passed away. He was 70 years old. Bob had been battling cancer for three years. Cricketers from around the world paid tribute, including Sourav Ganguly, Sir Vivian Richard, Kevin Pietersen. Bob made his Test debut against Australia in January 1971. While made his ODI debut in September 1973 against the West Indies. In 1984, he retired from cricket. Bob took 325 wickets in 90 Tests and 80 wickets in 64 ODIs in his career.
  11. Mickey Arthur has been appointed as the head coach of the Sri Lankan cricket team. His first test as a head coach will be on the Pakistan tour, which starts five days later. The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and BHEL have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation and continuation of the programs and its commercialization on a wider scale. The indigenous technology developed by CSIR will thus be commercialized and implemented by BHEL and CSIR to make the Make in India initiative a success. The first project under this cooperation will be commercialized by BHEL related to water purification/sewer disposal technology developed by CSIR. This agreement has been done for five years.
  15. A study conducted by UK-based tech research firm Computeritech said that India ranks 5th with Taiwan, Indonesia, and the Philippines on the list of aggressive use of biometrics, while China, Malaysia, and Pakistan come ahead of India on the list. If India’s national biometric database was within the reach of police and other investigative agencies, India’s performance could have deteriorated further.
  16. The Ministry of Home Affairs has sanctioned a sum of Rs. Nirbhaya Fund for the establishment/strengthening of Women Help Desk in Police Stations. A 100 crore cost proposal has been approved. The purpose of the Women’s Help Desk is to make the police station friendly and reliable for women. The Women’s Help Desk will be the first and single point of contact for any woman in the police station. A woman police officer will be posted at the desk.
  17. To strengthen the functioning of Independent Directors under the Companies Act, the Corporate Ministry started the Databank of Independent Directors in New Delhi because of the provisions of the Companies Act 2013 and the rules to be made thereunder.
  18. In November 2019, Union Minister for Women and Child Development Smriti Irani launched the “Yu Waah Initiative”. Goal – To promote education and skill development for adolescents aged 10 to 24 years. Also, by the year 2030, working with the private sector is to provide willing economic opportunities to about 50 million youth. Significantly, about 21 percent of the world’s teen population lives in India. India is the first country in the world to initiate such an initiative.
  19. British scientists have designed an artificial neuron. They claim that this neuron, formulated as a silicon chip, can cure heart attack, Alzheimer’s (amnesia). It will be used in medical devices to be implanted in the body. Researchers at Bath University, who built it, say that a very powerful microprocessor will be used to make this. Millions of neurons are found in the human body, whose job is to exchange and analyze information from the brain.
  20. Air Force Chief Rakesh Kumar Singh Bhadauria is participating in the Pacific Area Air Force Chiefs Discussion 2019 (PACS 2019) held at ADC Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii. The theme of this year’s discussion is ‘Collaborative Approach to Regional Security’. In this conference, the Air Force Chief of the India Pacific Border Region will give his views while discussing common challenges topics like ‘regional security, regional awareness, multisectoral awareness’, ‘HADR’ and cooperation. The conference will also discuss a joint effort to maintain peace and security in the region.

The 14 MLD capacity Hybrid Amuniti STP (Sewerage Treatment Plant, Sewerage Treatment Plant) at Haridwar at 41.40 crores has started functioning under the Centre’s ambitious project, Namami Gange. This first STP of the country was launched in the presence of 16th King of Sweden Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia. Known as “Iron Lady”, “Hosju” won the gold medal in the 400-meter medley with a time of four minutes 25 decimal 10 seconds. He won his first medal in this championship 15 years ago in Vienna. “Hosju” has three Olympic gold, 26 World Championship gold and 31 European Championship gold medals.
