  1. Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises – MSME Minister Nitin Gadkari said that his ministry is working on formulating Agro-MSME policy. This policy will focus on entrepreneurship development in rural, tribal, agricultural, and forest areas for the manufacturing of products using locally available raw materials. During the meeting, Mr. Gadkari asked the industry to ensure that necessary measures should be taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19. He said that there is a need to focus on domestic products rather than imports from abroad. Therefore, more emphasis should be given on innovation entrepreneurship, science, and technology, research skills, and experience.
  2. The Indian Railways Department will bear 85 percent of the fares of migrant laborers and the states 15 percent. On the issue of rail fares, the Health Ministry official said that on the request of the state governments, special trains are being run to take the stranded people to their states. He said that the Central Government has never spoken of charging any rail fare from the workers. The official said that 85 percent of the fare is being borne by the Railways, while 15 percent is being contributed by the concerned State Government.
  3. The Defense Research and Development Organization – DRDO has developed an ultraviolet disinfection tower to quickly and without infection deplete the areas highly susceptible to COVID-19. The device is named UV-Blaster. It is an ultraviolet based sanitizer. It has been developed by the Center for Laser Science and Technology. UV-blasters are useful in laboratories and offices for high-tech fields such as electronic equipment, computers, and other devices because they are not suitable for freeing them from chemical methods.
  4. Union Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Narendra Singh Tomar launched The Saras Collection on the online sales portal in New Delhi. The collection features daily use items prepared by self-help groups and aims to link rural self-help groups with buyers from the central and state governments. It is a unique initiative of e-market and Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission. Under this initiative, self-help group vendors will be able to list their products in five categories. These categories are – handicrafts, handlooms and textiles, office utilities, rations and kitchens, and personal care and hygiene. The ministry said that in the first phase, so far 913 self-help groups from eleven states have registered as vendors and 442 items have been listed for sale.

The National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) under the Ministry of Water Power along with the National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) organized an ideathon on the topic ‘Future of River Management’. This international webinar, with around 500 participants from various countries and international organizations, discussed how the COVID-19 crisis could lead to river management strategies for the future. This event has emphasized the need to pay more attention to river management. Also, it highlighted interconnectivity in cities along the river. Cities close to the river need special attention in creating awareness about the ecological importance and economic potential of rivers. The Namami Gange program will formulate a policy based on the suggestions provided by IDEAthon.
  6. The first case of African swine flu in the country has been reported in Assam. The state government claims that 2,500 pigs died in 306 villages in seven districts of the state. Assam Animal Husbandry Minister Atul Bora says that despite the approval of the central government, the action of killing pigs will not be taken immediately.   7. Recently, the date of nomination for the Sardar Patel Award for National Integration was extended. Now the award can be applied till 20 June 2020.   8. Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) and Jio Platforms Limited (Jio Platform) announced that the American company will invest Rs 5,655.75 crore in the Silver Lake Jio platform. The investment has been made at the equity value of the Jio platform at Rs 4.90 lakh crore and enterprise value at Rs 5.15 lakh crore. With this investment, Silver Lake will have a 1.15% stake in the Jio platform. Last month, the legendary social media company Facebook invested Rs 43,574 crore in the Jio platform. Following this investment, Facebook has a 9.99% stake in the Jio platform.
  9. The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh has designed a watch-like device to deal with the corona. It has been named as the state bird Monal of Uttarakhand. Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat dedicated this device to the country in the presence of all the leading doctors of AIIMS through video conferencing. This device will be made available to the person who will have primary symptoms related to corona in AIIMS COVID-19 OPD. Through this, he will remain in contact with the doctors of AIIMS even while staying at home. There is such a chip in the device, which will continue to give information about the heart and breath speed of the person concerned, oxygen only, and all other activities. It can also be operated through 2G speed on the internet.

  11. Indian scientists (National Institute of Animal Biotechnology, Hyderabad) have designed an electrochemical sensing device called eCovSens for rapid screening of corona infection. An application is being sent to the government for approval of the machine.
