  1. Recently, the Rajasthan government gave a go-ahead to the Mukti Caravan campaign to spread awareness about child labor and human trafficking. The objective of this campaign is to spread awareness among people about preventive procedures to deal with cases like child trafficking, forced labor and sexual exploitation of children. This caravan will travel to eight districts of Rajasthan for the next two months. These include Jaipur, Tonk, Bhilwara, Udaipur, Rajsamand, Chittorgarh, Pratapgarh and Banswara districts which are prone to human trafficking. It is worth noting that in the National Crime Records Bureau’s report of the year 2018, Rajasthan has been ranked sixth in the case of human trafficking. The campaign is being led by the Kailash Satyarthi Children Foundation (KSCF) and the Rajasthan Police.
  2. A fire broke out in the Burhi Dihing River near Naharkatiya in Dibrugarh district of Assam due to a leakage from the underground oil pipeline of Oil India Limited (OIL). The Budhi Dihing River is a tributary of the Brahmaputra in upper Assam in northeast India. It is also called the Dihing River. The river originates from the eastern Himalayas (Patkai hills) in Arunachal Pradesh and flows through Tinsukia and Dibrugarh districts in Assam. Its length is about 380 kilometers.
  3. The Department of Science & Technology of the Ministry of Earth Sciences launched a scheme called Sophisticated Analytical & Technical Help Institutes-SATHI. Its objective is to provide high-efficiency technical facilities under one roof to promote research work. So that the needs of education, start-ups, manufacturing, industry and R&D labs can be easily met. Major analytical instruments will be developed in these centers to provide general services through high analytical testing which will reduce dependence on foreign equipment. These will be handled transparently under the Open Access Policy. The Department of Science and Technology has already established three such centers in the country which are located at IIT Kharagpur, IIT Delhi, and Banaras Hindu University.
  4. More than 73 lakh candidates have been trained under the Prime Minister’s Skill Development Scheme. This information was given by the Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship RK Singh in a written question in the Lok Sabha. He said that the Ministry is implementing this scheme with the objective of training 1 crore youth across the country.
  5. The Indian Institute of Veterinary Research (IVRI) of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) developed a new vaccine to control classical swine fever. This vaccine will help protect rabbits as currently Lapinised CSF (Classical Swine Fever) vaccines are manufactured from rabbits. This new vaccine will provide two years of immunization capacity, while the existing vaccines only provide 3 to 6 months of immunization capacity.
  6. The state of Kerala has declared the situation arising out of the coronavirus as a state disaster. The move has been taken after three cases of the deadly virus infection were confirmed in the state. The condition of the patients is stable and they are being closely monitored.
  7. The Supreme Court has asked the states to set up ‘village courts’ within four weeks. The Supreme Court has asked for consultations with the High Courts of the state. The Village Courts Act, 2008 was passed for the establishment of village courts at the ground level. The purpose of this judicial institution is to provide justice in rural areas. The current status of village courts in the states was made clear by advocate Prashant Bhushan, advocate of the Supreme Court.
  8. “Paytm” has launched “Android POS Device” for small and medium businesses (SMEs) and its merchant partners. These Android-based devices will enable merchants to collect payments from customers in various ways such as debit and credit cards, Paytm wallet, UPI-based apps, and cash. This tool will facilitate merchants to bill GST reminders, manage transactions and settlement through the ‘Paytm for Business’ app. This service will increase the importance of digital payments to small and medium businesses (SMEs) and merchant partners businesses as well as benefit from the digital economy.
  9. The Delhi Government’s Public Transport Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) was awarded the Transport Minister’s Road Safety Award 2018-19 at an event in New Delhi. The award was given for its lowest accident rate. Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) Mr. Nitin Jairam Gadkari presented a trophy and a check of Rs 1 lakh to Mr. Manoj Kumar, Managing Director (MD) of DTC. Nagaland State Transport (NST) was awarded the ‘Road Safety Award 2018-2019’ for the ‘lowest rate of accident in the hill category’. The award was given by the Association of State Road Transport Undertakings (ASRTU).

The team of researchers from the Indian Institute of Technology-Madras (IIT-M), led by Vishal Nandigana, has developed a new AI technique to convert simple human language English to the brain signals of a human incapable of speaking.   11. The Union Ministry of Labor and Employment has launched “Satisfy Portal”, an implementation monitoring cell.   13. Renowned actress Waheeda Rehman will be honored with the Rashtriya Kishore Kumar Samman of the Madhya Pradesh government. Rahman will be awarded the award for the year 2018. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh and a citation.
