  1. The Ministry of Rural Development has released a lump sum of five hundred rupees this month for each female account holder linked to Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana. The amount was deposited in his account yesterday. Recently, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman announced an ex-gratia amount of five hundred rupees per month to each woman under the Prime Minister’s Grab Welfare Package. This amount is to be given for three months.
  2. The Naval Mumbai-based dockyard has developed an infrared-based temperature testing gun for the screening of its employees. The price of this gun made from indigenous technology is less than one thousand rupees. The LED display in the gun will help security personnel check the staff entering the dockyard. This dockyard, a 285-year-old naval western command, receives about 20,000 personnel on an average every day. In addition to this gun, the dockyard has also designed a personal safety kit which includes face mask, gown, head cover, gloves, and shoes. The dockyard has also developed a mobile device carrying the oxygen cylinder.
  3. Students and scientists from IISc Bangalore have developed an indigenous ventilator under “Project Pran”. This ventilator is designed using a pressure sensor. Apart from this sensor, scientists have also used reverse osmosis water filters. The pressure and flow parameters in the ventilator are controlled using the PLC board. The PLC board is a programmable logic controller board. It is mainly used for programming purposes. The ventilator consists of a mixture of oxygen with compressed air. All the components used in it are made in India. Therefore this ventilator is 100% indigenous.
  4. Home Minister Amit Shah has allowed eleven thousand 92 crore rupees to be released to all states under the State Disaster Risk Management Fund. Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured this during a video conference with the Chief Ministers. The Center has already released the first installment of the State Disaster Risk Management Fund for 2020-21 to increase the funds available with the state governments.
  5. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), an autonomous arm of the United Nations, has sent COVID-19 test equipment to about 40 countries. The IAEA is known for its nuclear inspection operations in countries such as Iran. It also helps countries to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes. This organization recently received requests from 90 countries for assistance in COVID-19 testing. The nuclear agency has sent help to 40 of those requests. These beneficiaries include Iran, Kenya, Egypt, Nigeria, Vietnam, Cuba, Thailand, Peru, and Uruguay. These countries are being provided with testing equipment worth $ 4.37 million. Mongolia, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, and the Philippines have received the equipment in Asia. Other countries are from Africa and Latin America.
  6. IBM has launched the ‘Watson Assistant for Citizens’ platform to answer questions related to COVID-19 for free. Watson Assistant for Citizens is an artificial intelligence platform that provides reliable information on questions related to COVID-19. Watson Assistant, Watson Assistant for Citizens, explains common language as well as Artificial Intelligence (AI) search capabilities that help understand and answer common questions about COVID-19. Watson Assistant for Citizens will provide information using data from currently available external sources. These sources include the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and other government sources, the country’s civil welfare schemes such as the World Resources and World Health Organization and the US Centers for Disease Control.
  7. Sri Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology has signed an agreement with Wipro 3D, Bengaluru to manufacture automated ventilators. The two organizations have tied up to jointly build the prototype of an emergency ventilator system based on the Artificial Manual Breeding Unit (AMBU).
  8. The current president of the United Nations Security Council, Dominican Republic, announced that the United Nations Security Council will hold a meeting on COVID-19 next week. The meeting will be conducted through teleconferencing. The primary responsibility of this council is to deal with geopolitical peace and security. The decision to hold this meeting has been taken after criticism of the UN Security Council inaction on COVID-19. This is because in 2014, in the time of Ebola, this council worked rapidly.
  9. The Union Agriculture Ministry launched a new feature of the national agricultural market. It aims to strengthen the agricultural marketing of farmers. Its main objective is to reduce congestion in the mandis, this will help in fighting COVID-19. The Ministry has launched new software modules on the e-NAM platform. They include Warehouse-based modules that will facilitate trade from the warehouse itself. This will help in saving expenses. Farmers can sell their products anywhere across the country.   11. The government of Andhra Pradesh has started providing pension facilities to 58,44,240 beneficiaries of the state at their home. Its purpose is to encourage beneficiaries to stay at home and avoid moving out. The beneficiaries will be given different amounts according to the categories prescribed. During the 21-day lockdown, the pension will be provided to all classes, including elderly people, from fishermen and folk artists.
