The introduction of the GTAM platform will reduce the burden on renewable energy (RE)-rich states and encourage them to make concessions to further develop RE capacity from their RPOs (renewable energy purchase obligation). This will promote RE business capacity addition and help in achieving the country’s RE capacity addition targets. The government aims to achieve 1,75,000 MW of generating capacity in renewable energy by 2022, Due to which green energy is expanding across the country. Key features of GTAM:
  • Transactions through GTAM will be bilateral, with clear identification of buyer and seller, this will not cause any difficulty in the accounting of RPOs.
  • GTAM contracts will be separated into solar RPOs and non-solar RPOs as RPO targets have also been separated.
  • Also, GTAM contracts within the two segments will have Green Intraday, Dayhead Continuity, Daily, and Weekly contracts.
  • Green Intraday Contract and Dayhead Continuity Contract – Bidding will be on a 15-minute time-wise MW basis.
  • Daily and Weekly Contract – Bid will be on the MWH basis. Both buyer and seller can submit bids, however, the seller will provide a profile in terms of price (Rs. Per MWh) with block-wise quantity (MW) of 15 minutes. The schedules will be made according to the profile after the contract is executed. In the case of many buyers, the profile will be allocated on a pro-rata basis.
  • Price discovery will be on a continuum i.e. price based on time priority. Subsequently, open auctions can be started for daily and weekly contracts depending on the market conditions.
  • Energy determined through the GTAM contract will be considered the buyer’s RPO compliance.
