  1. Road, Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari inaugurated the Mahatma Gandhi Setu on the Ganges River in Bihar via video conference. This bridge of about 5 kilometers long and four-lane is built between Patna and Hajipur on National Highway 19. Its construction has cost one thousand seven hundred and 42 crores. This bridge started being built in June 2017. On this occasion, Mr. Gadkari also announced the construction of a 5 K.M. long bridge over the Ganges River in Patna. Ships will also be able to pass under this bridge. Its cost will be around three thousand crores.
  2. A report by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) says that about three-quarters of the world’s children are forced to live with lead metal poison. The reason why such a large number of children are affected by lead metal is due to negligence in the disposal of acid batteries. Because of this, UNICEF has appealed for such negligence and also called for immediate closure. UNICEF and Pure-Earth’s report, titled “The report – The Toxic Truth: Children’s exposure to lead pollution undermines a generation of potential”, states that it has caused a loss in the blood of about 80 million children around the world. The level of this toxic lead metal is 5 micrograms per dl or more. According to the number of children reported in this UNICEF report, every third child in the world is living with this poison.
  3. Hardik Satishchandra Shah, a 2010 batch IAS officer, has been appointed as the new Private Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on a co-terminus basis. He is currently serving as the Deputy Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). Hardik served as personal secretary to Prakash Javadekar, Minister of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, before moving to the PMO last year.
  4. In Bangalore, Covid Defense Solution was launched to provide complete information about epidemic prevention to the patients of Covid-19. With the initiative of Tejashwi Surya, MP from Bengaluru South, everyone will be able to learn how to deal with the Covid virus. A helpline number – 6 191 4 9 6 0 has also been added under this solution, on which people can give information on showing symptoms of Covid-19. On this solution, the facility of investigation and treatment-related advice is available in the hospital. It also provides emergency services until the patient is taken to a hospital or covid care center. Experts will give their advice to the people through video conference.
  5. Union Housing Minister Hardeep Singh Puri inaugurated the Affordable Rental Residential Complex – ARHC Knowledge Pack. It also includes a memorandum of understanding with states and union territories to facilitate the housing of urban migrants in the country. The Union Cabinet approved ARHC as a sub-scheme under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana earlier this month. It aims to provide housing to the urban poor and migrant workers. The ARHC scheme will be implemented in two forms in the country. The government-funded houses in the first form will be converted into ARHC under private government participation for the next 25 years. Secondly, residential buildings will be constructed at ARHC and will be operated by the government or private companies for the next 25 years.
  6. The government wants to develop a logo to give special recognition to the self-reliant India campaign which will be based on creative and new information received from the citizens of the country. MyGov.in, the platform has launched a self-reliant India logo design competition on its website, where Indian citizens can post their entries without any hassle online. The last date for submission of entries is 11 am to 45 pm on 5 August. A cash prize of Rs 25 thousand will be awarded to the people selected as the winner.
  7. The Union Health Minister, Dr. Harsh Vardhan, presided over the meeting of the Bureau of the Executive Board of the World Health Organization – WHO, through video conference. In the meeting, Dr. Harsh Vardhan emphasized that timely, adequate, and coordinated action is needed at the global level to deal with the situation like corona epidemic. The requested member countries of the World Health Organization to form multi-level alliances of cooperation and coordination to combat such diseases.
  8. Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal inaugurated the CII National Digital Conference on Ease of Doing Business for Self-reliant India to promote a single-window concept for investment decisions in the country. The Union Commerce Minister has expressed the resolve that the government is committed to covering the country with optic fiber in the next five years. Also, the industry has been invited to work as partners with the government to identify government tax evaders. The government is ready to receive feedback from the industry regarding the simplification of policy measures in the country.
  9. The 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards will be held virtually this year due to the COVID-19 epidemic situation. This decision has been taken after the announcement of nominations for this year’s prestigious awards. The ceremony, which was earlier to be held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, will now be shot from the homes of US actors. The online ceremony will be held on 20 September. Amy’s executive producers have already sent communications to all the nominees so that they can be prepared to attend the ceremony from their homes. This decision has been taken because of the prevailing situation in the world because it is not safe to arrange a gathering of so many people.
  10. Unnat Bharat Abhiyan – Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (UBA-IITD), and Vijna Bharati (VIBHA), New Delhi has signed a tripartite MoU with CSIR. The MoU signed will provide access to CSIR rural technologies for UBA. This will lay the foundation for joint action as well as cooperation in the field of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) for India’s rural development. Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) is the flagship national program of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) which aims to bring revolutionary and positive changes in the development processes of rural India by enabling knowledge institutions to build the architecture of inclusive India. The MoU will have effective coordination between CSIR, IIT Delhi, and Vijna Bharti (Vibha) to meet the objectives of the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan.
  11. Russia has claimed that its first vaccine to treat the deadly COVID-19 disease will be ready by August 12, 2020. The vaccine is being developed by the Gamalaya Institute of Moscow and the Russian Direct Investment Fund. The vaccine will be ready for mass consumption and use within 4 to 7 days of registration by drug regulators. However, the main concern here is that data related to the testing of this vaccine has not been made public. This puts a question mark on the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine.
  12. Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for North Eastern Region Development, Prime Minister’s Office, Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh laid the foundation stone of various schemes under PMGSY-II online. In these projects, 28 roads have been inaugurated in various parts of Jammu and Kashmir under PMGSY-II at a cost of around Rs 175 crore, including Channunta Khas to Bhuktriyan Khas, Phalta to Bikhhan Gala, Arnas to Thakrakote, Roads from Ramnagar to Dudu, Pauni to Kund.

Bob Financial Solutions Limited (BFSL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bank of Baroda, has launched Fiserv, Inc. to enable digitization of its card cards from the beginning to the end of the processing cycle. Fiserv, Inc. (Nasdaq: FISV). Fiserv inc. Is a leading global provider of payments and financial services technology solutions and will also support BFSL to introduce several new and high-tech products, including contactless credit cards, tokenization and integration with branded wallets, and virtual credit cards.
  14. Anil Ambani-controlled Reliance Power and Japan’s energy sector-major Jeera have arranged funds for their new gas-based thermal power project in Bangladesh. Reliance Power and JIRA have tied up with banks for the complete financing of the project for $ 642 million, or about Rs 4,798 crore. The two companies together are developing a 745 MW project at Meghnaghat, Bangladesh. Reliance Power said in a communication to the stock exchanges that it has signed a loan of $ 642 million with a group of banks including Japan Bank of International Cooperation for financing the project. The electricity produced will be sold under a long-term power purchase agreement with Bangladesh Electricity Development Board (BPDP) for 22 years.
  15. The Corbett Tiger Reserve (CTR) has the presence of the rare albino female sambar (white sambar) and the endangered fishing cat for the first time. The photos of both have been captured in cameras mounted for the tiger census of Phase-4. Alvino Sambhar and Kalagarh in Pakhro Range of Corbett Tiger Reserve (CTR) and fishing cat in Arina Range. The extremely rare Alvino sambar has never been seen in CTR before. Although the fishing cat was seen about ten years ago, its photo never appeared as proof.
  16. The Government of India has increased the safeguard duty on imported solar cells till 31 July 2021. This will give a boost to the domestic solar cell industry, thereby achieving the goal of self-reliant India. The domestic industry is being affected by the import of solar cells from some countries. Therefore, it is necessary to curb these for the protection of domestic industries. Safeguard duty has been provided by the GATT (General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade), 1994. It allows a member of the World Trade Organization to temporarily restrict the import of a product to protect its domestic industry.

Digital wallet company, MobiKwik has launched a new UPI Link service called “mpay.me” which will enable users to send and receive money from any UPI payment app. A Sigal link created using Mpay.me can be shared anywhere to send and receive money, which will work on mobile as well as desktop. Through mpay.me users will now be able to create their own mini private payment gateway using their phone number. To receive the payment, the user has to share it with that person on chat, SMS, email, etc. All MobiKwik UPI users who have their payment link can use this service. This link can be used through any UPI app MobiKwik, GooglePay, PhonePe, Paytm, etc.
  18. The government has extended the deadline for filing income tax returns for the financial year 2018-19 by two months to September 30. The Central Board of Direct Taxes has announced this because of the epidemic situation in the country and to ease the compliance aspect for taxpayers. The earlier date for filing was July 31, 2020. The government also extended on two earlier occasions and this is the third such extension granted by the government to taxpayers to file both original and revised tax returns for the 2018-19 financial year. In March it was extended from 31 March to 30 June and then for a month to 31 July.

The Government of India has invited nominations for the “Subhash Chandra Bose Disaster Management Award”, which will be given to those who have done outstanding work in the field of disaster management. Individuals and institutions involved in this work can fill the nomination form for the awards. Every year, the winners for this award are announced on 23 January, the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. It is offered in areas such as disaster-related incidents, rescue, preparedness, rehabilitation, research, rescue operations, relief, and mitigation. The winning institutions are given Rs 51 lakh as cash prizes and Rs 5 lakh to individual winners.
  20. Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard fired underground ballistic missiles under the military exercise ‘Great Prophet 14’ (code name- “Payambar e Azam 14”) near the Hormuz Strait. After the missile test, troops were alerted at two US military bases in the nearby area. As part of the exercise, Al-Dafra Air Base in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates and the US Army Central Command Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar were alerted in the wake of the missiles being fired.
  21. Indian Grandmaster, P Harikrishna took second place in the Rapid Section of the 53rd Biel International Chess Festival held in Switzerland. The world number 26 player scored 10 points less than top-ranked Poland’s Radoslaw Wojtaszek. Earlier, the Indian Grandmaster topped the Accentus Chess960 tournament with 5.5 points. The Biel Chess Festival is the first major event played on board during the COVID-19 pandemic, which is being held following all health protocols. The table distance between players on the chessboard is increased, and after each game, all the pieces, boards, clocks are completely cleaned. Also, the audience is not allowed to visit the venue.
  22. Veteran Indian domestic all-rounder Rajat Bhatia has announced his retirement from all formats of cricket. He made his debut in Tamil Nadu in 1999–2000, although he played most of his cricket for Delhi. Bhatia played 112 first-class matches, scoring 6482 runs at an average of 49.10 and taking 137 wickets at an average of about 28. Also, he has played 119 List A games and 146 T20s. He last played a first-class match in 2019 and scored 700 runs in the Ranji Trophy 2018-19 season. Apart from this, Bhatia has also played in the IPL for Delhi Daredevils, Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Rising Pune Supergiants.
  23. Former President Li Teng-hui, who is called the grandfather of democracy in Taiwan, passed away. 97-year-old Lee had been ill for a long time. Under his leadership, direct elections were held for the first time in Taiwan in 1996 for the presidency. He also won in this election. Taiwan’s President Sai Ing-wen has mourned Lee’s death.
  24. Malayalam actor Anil Murali passed away. He started his career on the silver screen in 1993 with Kanyakumariyil Oru Kavita. He acted in more than 200 films in Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu films. The actor was known for his roles in films such as Lion, Balram vs Tharadas, Mahasamudram, Nerariyan CBI, July 4, Rock and Roll, Run Baby Run, Amen, Dolphin Bar, Ramaleela, Joseph, Nimirndhu Nil, Thani Oruvan, Kodi.
